I've recently become a widow and am having a hard time transitioning to cook for one. I also love a well prepared med rare steak but usually cook them on heavy cast iron skillets. With warm Temps, I didn't want to use my oven or stove to prepare a simple meal every day....so I bought this as an alternative, money saving appliance. Sure am glad I did! It's made well and the temp controls take some getting use to. If your making something without the lid on, there will be some grease spatter to deal with, so place it where it won't damage nearby objects or use a spatter screen. I've made chicken (large enough for 2 large thighs or one breast), pork chops, seafood, beef of various cuts as well as vegetable stir fry. Things cook pretty quickly in this little treasure so make sure you keep an eye on your food! Clean up is quick and easy but must be done by hand. DO NOT toss it in your dishwasher (duh....electric skillet and water???). It's small and compact and takes very little counter space. This product is excellent for widows, single people, college students, RVers and folks who travel a lot on business . Best part....I've already seen a decrease in my electric bill from not using my stove and oven. Great product especially after a short learning curve on how to use it! ... show more

Nesco 8" Elect. Skillet arrived on time (Prime) and in excellent condition. I am a single, elderly male that has to prepare all his own meals. I try to provide myself with food that is tasty, nutritious, and reasonably simple to make. This little skillet has turned out to be a welcome addition to my counter top appliances. The Nesco, along with a small elect. grill, a toaster oven and my microwave oven lets me efficiently prepare 95% of my meals. The Nesco skillet seems to be really well made and the ability to wash the unit (minus the probe) is a real bonus. With the lid on it really heats up fast and can really get hot (425-450 deg.) at its highest setting. The thermostat, located on the probe lets you experiment with different settings for separate cooking needs. There are 5 different heat settings for the thermostat. I usually preheat to the 1-2 range and take it on up to 3-4 to do the actual cooking. The 5 setting is really hot and I use it only to sear beef, pork chops or ham steaks. I've cooked the previously mentioned meats as well as eggs, french toast, battered fried mushrooms/onions, shrimp as other tasty foods. This little skillet has worked well for all of the above. The size of the unit is perfect for 1 or 2 people with limited space. The non-stick coating has also held up well. This has been a great purchase at a reasonable price. ... show more

This works great for a single person for general purpose use. I cook many types of recipes in it and am very happy with the results. The non-stick coating works very well so I can just rinse under the hot water tap then gently wash with a soapy sponge to remove any leftover food or grease. I purchased this November 15th 2015 and the non-stick coating just has a couple small scratches that are totally my fault from absent mindedly using a metal utensil. I have had no problem with the heating element, cord or heating control. Like all low priced electric skillets it does turn off and on in an attempt to maintain the temperature setting; an imperfect method but the least expensive to manufacture. Only high end American made electric skillets have a temperature control utilizing an embedded processor and high power output circuits. It works fine for my purposes, just took a little experimenting to figure out how to set it for different types of food. ... show more

I originally purchased the 7" Elite brand Electric Skillet, and used it 3 times, but was VERY Unhappy with it. it Sucked Big time! it wouldn't cook potatoes properly, and it'd cook only One side of a Grilled Cheese sandwich Perfectly but NOT the other side at all. as I said, I tried 3 times, and got the Same Result Every Time. I Had to Return it, as I Hated it and Seriously Regretted my purchase. I got this one Yesterday (06/05/2020 and used it One time, so far. this one is SO MUCH BETTER! So Worth the money I spent on this one. Unlike the Elite brand one I bought first, it has a Temperature rating, so I Actually Know what Temperature I'm Cooking my food at. the Elite brand has only a High, Medium & Low temperature, which doesn't tell me Diddly Squat! and it takes FOREVER to cook food properly (if at all). This one, my food was done Properly in a few minutes or so. Which made me Very Happy. it doesn't take up a lot of space, which is good for me, as I don't have a lot of space of where to put it at, to cook my food. it's Very Easy to Clean... and it's the Perfect size for a Single person like me, who doesn't like to cook too much food at one time.. So I can make Healthy portions for myself, and not have to worry about Left overs. not that I mind left overs. LOL! Needless to say, I'm Very Happy with my purchase of This 8" electric skillet, and I'd Definitely Recommend it to others who don't have a lot of space to have cookware. this is Perfect for a College Dorm, an R.V., or a 1 room Studio Apartment, which is basically what I have. I'm giving this 5 stars all the way. Definitely worth the money spent. :) I Won't be Returning this one. :) ... show more
