  • Great for the money
I was skeptical, but so far, it's great. I have a real 38 DGES and thought it had an issue. The rebuild kit is $40, and this whole carb is $75. So I figured, yeah, we'll give it a shot. I bolted it on, set the idle mix screws, which were not set at all. Run them all the way in, then back 1.5 turns out. I used ether to get it running until the fuel bowl filled. I turned the key and it started right up and ran great. I did have trouble with the choke. It was fine when cold, but warm, it sometimes caused hard starts. I just swapped the real Weber electric choke on to it, and I think that'll fix it. The electric choke that was on it did look pretty lame next to the real one. They're "clocked" differently, so look it over and mark an approximate location for setting it. For the money, man, I'm really impressed. My car is running great again. ... show more

  • Works perfectly on my 1980 MGB
I have a genuine Weber 38/38 on my MGB. A winter project is going to be rebuilding it. For the price of this, I figured it was worth a shot to have this to put on the B so I could still drive it while rebuilding the old Weber. It is almost identical when placed side by side. Build quality is good. The linkage on this is a little bit different as it has multiple places you can attach the throttle cable (which I actually like better), and it doesn't say Weber, otherwise they are identical. I pulled the Weber bolted this right on, hooked everything up and the car fired up immediately. It was running a bit rich, so I leaned it out some and that'd all. I have been driving it for a couple of weeks now with this carburetor and it is running flawlessly. Better than ever. I can really see that the Weber was ready for a rebuild. After I rebuild, I'll pull this and throw it on the shelf, ready to go on another project or back on the MGB if needed. Recommend. ... show more

  • lovin' it
Bolted right on in place of the 32/36 that was on it and improved the performance considerably. Jetting worked good on the b2200 with a header.

  • Poorly machined. Carb filled with metal shavings
EDITED: What can I say… I’m a glutton for punishment and curiosity got the best of me so I did buy another one of these carbs. This second carburetor was machined much better and had far less debris. I cleaned it up, set the float, staked the throttle plate screws, replaced the idle screws with some o-ringed IDF screws and installed it on my AMC 258. This carb was much more consistent than my old worn out Weber. The idle jets are spot on for me but be aware that you cannot swap them with real Weber idle jets if they aren’t correct for your application. The engine idles great but was running too rich at cruise for me. I was able to replace the main jets with smaller authentic Weber jets. The original jets do not have any indication as to their size but after some trial and error I would guess them to be 140-145s. The jeep runs fantastic with this new set up! I would still strongly suggest that you disassemble and check these carbs before installing them on your engine. In my opinion the debris I found in the pictured carburetor could have caused major issues in this engine had I just mounted and ran it. ORIGINAL REVIEW: As advised in an earlier review, I took this carburetor apart to check for debris before spending the time to install it on my engine. I was appalled to find that one of the air corrector ports was stripped out and/or incorrectly machined. I also found A LOT of metal flakes and shavings in the interior passages of this carburetor which could have lead to clogged jets/ports and possibly metal debris in my engine. A return/replacement was set up the same day I received the unit. Later I received an email stating "supply chain issues" were going to delay shipment of the replacement with no delivery date in sight, yet when I look at the purchase page it shows that another one can be bought and delivered the very next day? I too read the reviews and think these things won't happen to me but am glad I checked before installing. Good luck to those of you who are brave enough to purchase this carburetor and install it without checking it first! ... show more
