1988 Jeep YJ 4.2L I6 4x4 The choke will need to be adjusted. Before you bolt it in make sure you loosen the choke bolts so you can adjust. The jets were waaaaay backed out. I screwed mine all the way in and then backed them out 1.5 turns and it is running well so far. I also had to back off the throttle body screw about 2 turns. You'll need to adjust for your jeep. You do NOT need to adjust your timing. I'm pleased so far! Worth the money.

carburetor ran great for about 10 minutes, afterwards the brass float filled with gasoline and sank, allowing the bowl to overfill and dump fuel. The body of the carb seems ok but the parts inside it are of the worst quality. Since I am unable to find decent replacement parts for it either, it is essentially trash.

I wasn’t sure what to expect for the inexpensive price; but I was very pleased for the most part. You can see in my pictures that the casting is actually better than the original Carter. Internally it wasn’t far off either. I did have to adjust the floats a little, but that’s pretty common. I installed a higher end accelerator pump in mine, but you wouldn’t have to.. I’m just a little eccentric. All in all I’m amazed that such a product can be sold at this incredibly reasonable price.

Debated on getting a Weber or Motorcraft or other and thought I'd try this with little risk. It has been great. Has everything you need to replace the factory carb on a CJ 258. You don't need adapters or anything.. it's pretty much plug and play. Adjusted the choke idle mixture screws and that was about it. This is basically a knock-off of a non-computer controlled Carter BBD carb.

Bolted right up to a 1988 jeep Wrangler, 4.2 L AMC 258 without any adapter plates. I did not have a stock air filter so I purchased an Edelbrock 1208 with an adapter plate made by Mr. gasket part 6411G. I did have to pick up a. 1/4 20 coupling nut to extend the riser bolt to reach the air cleaner wing nut. The Jeep started right up on the first try and I also tried it at 30° outside and the choke work perfectly. You will have to push the gas pedal all the way down with the ignition on to activate the choke before trying to start the vehicle.
