  • Nelson 818653-4002 Rain Train Traveling Sprinkler, Cast Iron

Description

Rain TrainTraveling Sprinkler With a rustproof cast iron construction, the sprinkler waters up to 13,500 square feet, though covering a lesser area of 11,900 square feet ensures more effective performance. The sprinkler arms adjust for varied spray patterns and arcs, throwing water from 15 to 56 feet. The sprinkler waters as it travels along a hose on a preset route, much like an electric model train, except with a hose as the rails. To water, the homeowner lays out the hose as desired, taking care to avoid dramatic corners or turnabouts that may result in hose kinks or a derailed sprinkler. A front wheel runs on the hose with the two traction-ready rear wheels bestride. The hose connects to the posterior of the sprinkler. For the best results, LR Nelson recommends a 5/8-inch hose, though a 1/2-inch hose may suffice, up to 200 feet in length. For sprinkling termination, the user places a shut-off ramp on the hose to lift the sprinkler off its "rails," while simultaneous stopping operation. The shut-off ramp should be installed with at least five feet of hose between it and the spigot. The traveling sprinkler operates at two motor speeds, high and low. On high power, the sprinkler travels approximately 37 feet per hour, with a 1/4-inch water application. On low power, the sprinkler moves at a 21 feet per hour rate with a 1/2-inch water application. The simple installation requires no tools. The sprinkler weighs 18 pounds

  • Works as expected
I run this with a 100' hose, to cover a 40' wide section of our yard with some newly planted trees. Worked very well. May even get a 150' hose to use in more areas next year. Glad I bought it (never run one of these before, but I remember seeing them when I was a kid and thought they were a cool idea). ... show more

  • PERFECT YARD WATERER!
I grabbed this watering tractor after a couple of Orbit oscillating sprinklers failed with a week. This tractor is built for the long haul! Gives excellent coverage as well. I actually used an old hose and staked the ends down to make my guide for the front wheel to follow. Turn it on and forget about it for 3 hours as it slowly creeps across my backyard watering it flawlessly. I highly recommend this tractor. ... show more

  • Heavy, not for narrow areas
I suspect this would have worked well, but I couldn’t see myself messing with this due to the weight. Also, from what the instructions said, the throw (aka spread of the water) is quite wide, even when adjusted, so this wouldn’t have worked well in some of the more narrow trouble spots I had in mind, such as along a fence. This is probably great for a man and a huge yard. ... show more

  • It's a well working quality sprinkler.
I've had these sprinklers for years. I couldn't be happier with their performance. They work well and last for a long time and parts are offered for repairs if needed. My neibor lady has been watching the performance of my last one and had me order her one at the time of replacing mine. Thumps up !!

  • works like a charm
Works as advertised. I have a rather large yard and this sprinkler manages to cover it all. leave it alone and let it run. No going outside to move the sprinkler. I have not had any issues like some folks. this is great to set it and forget it. It even turns off automatically

  • Thanks Amazon Customer Service
I was excited when I found this tractor sprinkler, more excited it is cast iron. (I have two mouthy dogs that play with everything that involves water.). When received there was a missing part. I was so bummed out. Followed the manufacturer instructions to contact them for issues/parts. After a week with no response I left a message via Amazon. Within a day an Amazon rep got a hold of me, after providing the requested info Amazon sent me the missing piece. This is the first time I have ever had an issue and very pleased with Amazon!!!! As for the tractor. Like I mention, this is made of cast iron and has a solid weight to. My large dogs have not tipped it over nor tried to carry it away. Covers amazing amount of distance when watering. Has three ‘speeds’ - stationary, low, med. There are User lessons learn and influences like understanding the contour of your yard (i.e. slopes, holes, grass heights) that will determine and impact the sprinkler performance. Once you know your yard for laying the hose/track will increase the success of this sprinkler working for you. ... show more

  • Great sprinkler
I've had this for a couple of years. It still works great. I have a large uneven yard. This will go on rough terrain and goes well even with a really long hose. I have an acreage and this is nice to have.
