  • Fantastic bundle value, great first Flash!
If you are looking for your first TTL Flash, look no further! This bundle offers everything a beginner Flash user might want and at a huge $ savings (for me this worked out ~$65 over current retail prices) compared to buying the components individually. Also all the included items are something you will use immediately (diffusers) or grow into using them pretty soon (triggers). What really appealed to me: Canon compatible Flash supporting TTL (and Manual, S1/S2 modes), triggers for Slave mode (apologies for having to use this word), a well built hard diffuser and a soft diffuser. The recycle time was surprisingly quick (lower than the 3.5 sec advertised, but I was also shooting on 1/2 power perhaps). Flash movements were tactile and secure and can't really complain about the overall build quality (for a starter flash). Having researched beginner flashes a ton before making this purchase I had little doubt about Neewer's flash quality (the neewer 560 for example is very favorably reviewed as a starter flash). This well put together bundle makes it a great deal! ... show more

  • Inexpensive set that is not quite built to last but works as it should
First, let me say this is a perfectly adequate set for studio shooting. If you need more strobes and triggers, and don't want to lay out for Canon, this set should serve your needs just fine. I shoot events and news, so I won't be using this set because it is not really tough enough to take a lot of abuse. The hot shoes for the triggers and flash are metal, thank goodness, so they won't break off the camera, but I could readily see the flash cracking and becoming inoperable it it fell down say, or in my case, fell from my shoulder on the floor in a particularly crowded situation. The plastic is thin, not quite the rugged stuff the Canon Speedlites are made from (which I have dropped numerous times). In addition, to tilt the flash head is a simple push or pull, there is no "locking" adjustment like on the Canon flashes, no button to push. So the angle of the flash could get dislodged easily if bumped. I would be comfortable setting these up along a wall, say at a reception but I know if someone ran into them and the stand they were on fell over, they would probably break. But they are cheap enough to replace. After figuring out the sort of cryptic menu, the flash master and triggers work good. You really have to read the manual though to get the setting down right. The menus aren't as intuitive as the Canon, and there aren't all the videos showing you how to set them up. The flash is similar to the Canon EX-600 and works on my canon R5 and the 80D, so no worries there. Lots of batteries needed for this set-up 2 AAA for each trigger and 4 AA for the flash. They also all have ports for wired connections if need be.With diffusers, this flash is fine, but I wouldn't rely on it for my run and gun flash or flash for crowded events. ... show more

  • Great flash. Very powerful & user friendly. I’m still learning how to use it, but so far I love it.
I am not a professional photographer, but I do have a pretty advanced camera, the Canon 6D Mark II. I am still learning how to use the camera, as I am this new flash. I will say that the NEEWER flash can really throw out a huge amount of light. I was amazed at its power. I realize that quite often a much more subtle flash is all that is needed for the desired effect, and this flash if fully capable of that too. Like I said, I still have a long way to go with learning the ins and outs of my camera and new NEEWER flash. The flash is user friendly, and has some great accessories that came with it. I have shown this flash to some of my friends that are very experienced photographers and they too were impressed with the features of the NEEWER flash. Attached are a few pics from around then house using the flash. It goes without saying, the darker pics of the flowers were taken with the flash off. I hope the review was helpful. Thank you. ... show more

  • High quality/low cost speedlight from NEEWER
I'm a big fan of NEEWER products and have so many pieces of their equipment that I've lost count. They make a wide range of functional and high quality products for content creation and sell it at a value price point. Lately, it seems like they're making an effort to break out of the 'good for the price' niche and move up in the market. Even so, they haven't forgotten their roots and continue to crank out decent quality entry level equipment. This is the Z1-C, compatible with Canon cameras. Obviously, you're not going to get the full featured setup in an entry level flash but that said there's still a ton of functionality. Options abound such as TTL autoflash, manual flash, multi-flash, modeling lamp, etc. It produces nice light and the device is powered by either 4 AA batteries or 4 nickle metal hydride batteries. This might not be the best choice of charging for a more experienced photographer but for a flash targeted at the consumer market it makes perfect sense to leverage familiar and easy to find battery options. A decent entry level flash at a decent price--the classic NEEWER playbook. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Almost a Home Run
As I was opening this box, I was thinking to myself, "Neewer never ceases to amaze me." Unfortunately, for this one, they missed the mark a little. I subconsciously was comparing this kit, which includes the NW635 flash to the NW665 flash, which is one of my favorite flashes of all time. Compared to that flash, this one feels, well, cheap. Not that it's not a good flash, it's definitely a good flash, but it's not in the same league (more baseball puns, I know) as the 665. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than the 665, for sure. Where the 665 includes a rechargeable battery, this one runs on good-old AA batteries. Tried and true, but I prefer reusable batteries. The biggest thing this kit has is with the remote trigger. It is 2.4GHz, so it can trigger any flash that is compatible, including the 665, which means that you can trigger multiple flashes simultaneously. This does not support high-speed sync, unfortunately. For a nice, every-day flash and trigger kit, this is a good deal. If you want a higher quality flash by itself, pick up the 665. ... show more
