Balls to the wind!!, balls to the wind!! Overall a bloody decent and lovely axe. A well proportioned axe head. The eye fits the haft snug, complementing the the radius of the wedge. Running down the haft, the belly has a notch, leading to the throat ( dynamical shape ) ending with a good size end knob. Back to the Head : the shoulders are corresponding and well shaped on both the top and bottom of the Bit. Both the Toe & the Heal's angle of the Bit's edge are relative to the design of the Head. The length of the Bevel too, is a good size. The Bit's beard is in line with its shape and gives you that Viking edge. The Bevel's angle is great - 20/25 degrees and sharp enough to get going. The sheath that fits over the axe's head is leather and well made. A GREAT AXE, COMMENSURATE IN BALANCE AND OVERALL HANDLING.

This is a pretty good bearded axe for the price, and a solid platform. Only took me about 30 minutes of "conditioning" to whip it into shape. Overall I recommend it. Pros: + Bit hardening seems to be pretty good, as evidenced by difficulty sharpening with a hardened file, and durability hitting seasoned hardwoods. + Nice polished convex edge on the bit, only required minor sharpening. Cons for which a star was removed (would have been half star if that was possible): - Hafting was not tight, and the handle wiggled when the bit was buried deep in wood. I had to add an additional 5/32 straight wedge between the two annular wedges. Now it's tight. - Handle grain is 90 degrees offset. In other words, the grain should be parallel to the long axis of the cross section, but it's perpendicular on my axe. But in a shorter handle like this, it's probably not a huge issue.

It’s a great-looking axe and feels excellent in hand. To get the best out of this axe, the first and most important step is to not use it immediately. Instead, dip the handle in oil for a day or two to hydrate the wood. This will tighten the head and, most importantly, prevent the wood from cracking when chopping. You can use wood oil, or if you're in a pinch like I was, even car oil works perfectly. Secondly, you'll need to sharpen it. The axe has a thick blade, giving you plenty of room for shaping and grinding as needed. While it’s more of a decorative piece, it’s still made from quality wood and carbon steel, so it can be used effectively.

This is the dullest tool I have ever purchased. The edge is non existent. It had the same sharpness as a hammer. I gave it 3 stars because it appears to be well made outside of that. If you buy this the sharpening pucks aren’t going to do anything, you better have a good grinder. I would have sent it back but I destroyed the box already.

Came with a utility or tool edge. Took ten minutes and put a shave able edge. Slammed it into a car hood and it didn’t lose its edge. Handle fits my hands perfectly. Is a light and usable tool. Love it. Buying 3 more for my kids
