Yes, certain types. Retractable covers are compatible. Folding and hinged covers are not and will need to be removed. Roll-up covers less than 6" high are compatible if tent is placed over the cover, if more than 6" we suggest to remove the cover. Can you fit the tent over a truck bed toolbox? Yes. Place tent over toolbox to minimize amount of water that could enter between the box and the tent. We recommend covering corners of toolbox to protect tent from ripping on sharp edges. You will lose the amount of space that the toolbox occupies. Will the tent work if my truck has a camper shell/cap on it? No. Truck tents will not work if a camper shell/cap is assembled. This tent is super easy to set up and take down. If we go somewhere I can take the poles down and fold them, and the tent, into the back of the truck within 5 mins; to set back up takes under 5 mins. Can be done with 1 person. The tent is super spacious. Sleeps 2 adults comfortably. We've slept 1 adult and 2 kids (11 and 8) comfortably as well. Enough room for a large bag and other items at the end of the bed (over tailgate area). I have 2018 GMC Sierra standard bed. I've treated it with waterproof spray. I still get a small amount of water in it if the rain is consistent. The area is where the tent meets the tarp material at the front of the bed (near back window). I'm not convinced that this isn't operator error, however I haven't figured out how to set it up differently. The water pools in that area and eventually seeps in. The rest of the tent is fairly water tight. I do feel wetness if I rub the sides. I may treat it again. This is much better than I have encountered on many ground tents. I'm not sleeping in a river of water! I love that I am off the ground, away from most bugs and critters. Suggestions for improvement: Allow the tent to have the option of covering the side windows with flaps on the inside (like the door) that way one may get more ventilation when needed. The rain fly tends to inhibit ventilation. Try an option of the "dark out" type tent colorings. This tent is very bright in the morning. An air mattress made specifically for a truck bed is definitely worth the money. More comfortable and gives you more bed space. I would buy this tent over and over. My son also has it. We are both very pleased.

I'm very pleased with this tent. It fits perfectly in my 2012 Toyota Tundra Double Cab with the 6.5’ bed. The setup and take down is very easy (easy with one person, super easy with two people). My girlfriend and I took it to a festival on the top of a mountain, and she, who is accustomed to the finer things in life, appreciated the tent so much that she encouraged me to write a review. Combined with a nice truck bed blow up mattress, we were snug as two bugs in a rug. The wind was relentless on this mountain for two days. We watched from the safety of our Napier tent as pop-up sun canopies from other camp sites were basically obliterated (aluminum support poles bent in half and broken) and all makes and models of name brand tents (REI, Mountain Hardware, etc.) were upended from the ground and literally blown across the field like tumbleweed, chased by panicked owners. Watching this mayhem provided us with hours of very reasonably priced entertainment. The Napier tent, however, was very strong against the wind (I guess it helped that it was anchored to the body of a 2.5 ton truck), to the point of us being a little embarrassed that our camp was one of the only ones on the mountain with which the wind had not “had its way.” It also rained heavily one night and, with the included rainfly attached, we had as much as zero rainwater seep in. The tent has a nice attached liner for the bed of the truck so, even if a little rain runs down the side of the truck bed, you will stay dry. That being said, when we packed up, there was no moisture in the truck bed. Having done a lot of more primitive camping, and considering myself a bit of a gear-head, I was only cautiously optimistic about this tent fitting well on the truck and not having moderate issues. In the end, I couldn’t have been more pleased. There is nothing I would change about this product.

I purposely waited until we had a chance to use the tent before writing this review. We used this tent in an F150 with a BestTop roll up style bed cover. From the earlier reviews we did a practice run putting the tent up before going on our trip. The first time was slightly cumbersome, but not bad. Once we had it, it was easy the next several times we put it up and down. Quality was good and nothing broke or malfunctioned until the very last day. The string which held the green pole together broke the final time we disassembled the tent for the ride home. I'm going to try to get a replacement and will update this with the results. I'll I felt as if the bed of the truck was adequately protected. The experience of using the tent was great. We camped in Colorado with weather down to 40F and up to 85F. It rained multiple times during our trip. The tent never leaked. It did have condensate, but it did not leak. The tent has a net at the top. We used this to hold our iPad and watch movies at night which was fun. The interesting part of our trip was we had to use our truck every day during the trip. I built a platform for a bed in the truck which had to be removed before removing the tent. We didn't want to disassemble the entire setup each day so I simply removed the poles, unhooked the straps and folded the tent into the back of the truck then rolled the bed cover over it all. This worked great. It also allowed me to take down and put up the tent several times in this one trip. I became pretty quick at putting it up. With help it could pop right up in 10 minutes. All of the clips and straps held strong through all of this up and down with the tent. As mentioned before, the only issue with any hardware was the string on the green pole. Even with that one issue I think this tent is of very good quality and worthy of a high ranking. It handled the weather nicely, was simple to set up and take down and had as much room as one could possibly expect in a tent for a short bed truck. I'm happy with the purchase. One thing you'll need to get used to is everyone asking about the tent. We had a lot of people stop by and look at the setup. UPDATE: Napier customer service proved to be fantastic. They sent a replacement green pole quickly. We are still very happy with this purchase.

I also ordered a truck bed air mattress as well and am very pleased with the combination. I do like the design of the tent and ease of set up. Bag to keep it all in is pretty nice as well. Fits 2 adults with plenty of room. It works well with my trifold tonneau cover in place. The bed rail is nice to be able to have flat shelf to set phone on or flashlight etc. Like that the truck tent has its own pretty thick bottom that is connected. I did have an issue with the green pole across the back split on my 4th time putting the tent up. Will have to see how Napiers warranty service is. Definately a bad thing but I still like the tent. Dislikes-There are no windows over the screens on the sides of the tent. So have to have rainfly on at all times to have any privacy or to be able to change clothes in your tent. Wish had window facing towards the cab. Hate that the door and screen into and out of the tent falls down and rests on the ground when opened. A zippered across and down door would be much better. Plus wouldn't be tripping on it trying to get out in the middle of the night. Last thing I disliked is trying to get the 3 elastic peices with clips between the bottom of the tailgate and bumper. That is a finger smash just waiting to happen. Have to have great trust in your tentmate to not lose a finger or two installing this part. And I can't stress enough to put it up in your driveway before going out into the wilderness.

I used this tent on a camping trip with my girlfriend to glacier national park. Before we left we set it up in the driveway once, and after that it was easy to do. We set it up four times on the trip and I think we can do it together in 5-10 minutes now. Our preferred method was to lay it out on top of the truck bed and then put the poles in, contrary to the tip in the instructions. That way you don't need to try lift and maneuver it around with the poles in. The instructions are sewn into the bag and it gives a specific order for insertion of poles. We followed this order and did not have any poles break. A few tips of my own; don't loosen the straps to take the tent down, just stretch the elastic straps. That way they are the correct length for your specific pickup the next time you install it. The easiest part to screw up is the pole which forms an arch over the door. It needs to be assembled exactly as shown in the image for the product listing. The fabric goes inside of the tailgate support cables, and the pole goes to the outside of them. Otherwise it will get all stretched out funny in the front. You will realize if you make the mistake. Be careful when inserting the poles, and don't pull too hard on the shock cords, some people don't realize that all fiberglass tent poles can be easily broken if handled incorrectly and the shock cords will pull right out if you try remove the poles by simply pulling on one end. They must be pushed through to assemble and pushed back out to disassemble. The tent fits over the sides of the bed so the bed rails create somewhat of a shelf on each side that is nice for putting things you want to find at night. I bought a $7 lantern at walmart that was a perfect size for the tent, and the tent comes with a carabiner in the center for hanging just such a thing. I brought along a moving blanket and layed it out on the floor to protect the floor and our knees, it was the perfect size for it. I used my big cooler as a step for getting in and out with an outdoor rug in front of it for shoes. We stayed in two cots which worked out nicely, but they make air matresses for truck beds which would be nice to try. It fit fine in my regular box 2004 dodge ram 1500, and I had a tonneau cover rolled up in thd front while we used it. It fit over the rolled up cover and didn't seem to mind it. A few minor complaints would be that the elastic portion of the straps seems to be way too stretchy, to where it seems they wouldn't do much to hold onto the tent in a heavy wind. I would like to see them more firm feeling to be confident they will hold up and last a long time. Also the door portion assembles with 3 straps which must be dropped down in between the folded down tailgate and the bed, and fished out from on top of the bumper if that makes sense. The straps go all the way around the tailgate, parallel to the length of the vehicle, and getting them through that gap and around the bumper is a serious pain. I would have the girlfriend hold up the tailgate at about a 45 degree angle so I could drop them through and reach in and get them. It was a serious exercise in trust to have my fingers in there with her holding the guillotine up. I am also not entirely sure I am sold on the tent pickup concept yet. I would say that this tent would be absolutely ideal for a music festival or other trip where you would park the vehicle and don't move it for the duration. But if you are on a trip where you need to drive somewhere it means that every time you need to leave you need to take it down and then set it back up at the end of the day. On our trip we moved campgrounds all but one night, so in theory we would have only left it up once, but you also cannot get to camp early in the day, set up, and then go about your day to return to a fully set up campsite. Setting up camp is always the last thing you will do if you drive. Also you do need to remove everything from the bed to set this tent up, which usually I would do anyway as I like to set up camp...but it could be an issue for some. This tent certainly has its uses, and I dont regret buying it at all, but it's certainly worth a hard thought on what you are looking for in a tent.

This is a very well designed and made tent. It fits my 6'7" F150 bed perfectly! I separately bought a 2" thick 4 x 6 gymnastics pad and put that down inside -- resulting in an 8' long (with tailgate down) tent with a comfortable 6' sleeping area. There is an area for a gear net around the top of the tent, and also a central hook from which an LED lantern can be suspended. This tent includes a partial rain fly (covers windows but does not come fully down to tent base) that kept me dry during a heavy rain (admittedly, without high winds). Since overall I think the tent is great, here are few drawbacks: 1. The clips that attach to the underside of the frame are narrow, meaning that if you have e.g. fender flares or other aftermarket parts (I have rear wheel well guards), the middle clip on each side will not securely attach to the frame (in the case of fender flares, would not attach at all). This was not a big deal for me -- the tent was structurally intact without the middle clips. 2. If you plan on driving the truck during the day, you'll need to break down the tent each time you want to drive. Maybe more annoying, you have to plan when in the evening you plan to pitch the tent -- and then you're done driving for the day. This can be tricky for certain types of camping and simply requires a bit of advanced planning (putting the tent up and down is not hard). It's *possible* (but probably not legal, given that all rear lights are obscured) to drive up to about 30 mph with the tent fully pitched -- I had to do this in a pinch on some country Backroadz (see what I did there) and the tent was only very slightly worse for the wear, with some signs of stretching on the elastic band that clip to the bottom of the bed. With some creative engineering (or maybe a separate accessory), it might be possible to leave the tent partially pitched in order to drive with it still in the truck bed, but this honestly may not save much time. Just a reality of camping in the open bed of a truck I suppose. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

I got this last week. Set it up in the driveway per other reviewers, that was good advice. This weekend, I had no trouble setting it up. The fly is high up, but I had no real trouble pulling it over the top (I'm 5'4" ). Plenty of room for my single air mattress, large dog, and my gear. Second night out, windstorm! High altitude, wind >50 mph for hours, gusts to 70. Rain, Snow. Horrid weather. The tent performed amazingly well. I would not have been surprised or particularly upset if something broke. Popups and ground tents all around me were being destroyed But this thing - did not lead. Did not stretch noticeable. Did not break any straps, zippers, or poles. Just did great! Being on the truck means no issues with muddy mess when breaking camp in the morning, and easy to take down even in the wind because once you drop the poles it's all down in the bed where it doesn't blow around. The bottom is made of that heavy plasticky grey tent bottom ripstop stuff they all seem to use. I am absolutely delighted with this tent, and highly recommend it. Downsides? As others have commented, the fly doesn't fit all that well - it looks a bit baggy on the sides, and the lip over the door isn't really a lip. The poles are just right (some said too long) - which means it takes a bit of strength to fully bend the diagonals and get them in the pockets - I expect as it wears a little this will get easier. (The pole sleeves are solid fabric, no problems sliding them through.) The door does not open across the bottom, so you have to be careful about it entering and exiting (but there are loops so you can fold it away). And, I can't use my tailgate to cook on anymore! So I'll be getting a small folding table to add to the kit. Because I will be using this a lot, I can tell.

Purchased for son’s birthday. I know his girlfriend will sleep on a rock for him, he loves camping she loves him. So I really got this for her on his birthday, tbh. Arrived super fast (during COVID), nice box (did say Napier on the box so FYI). I assembled it myself in about 15min which is mostly being careful around the sharp edges of the truck. I have 20 years of SF experience and have put up my fair share of tents, so there is that. Three poles, you can put it together on the ground and then lift and lower into truck. Poles can be folded up at the ends and tent broken down partially in the bed very easily, so moving campsites and reassemble is less than 5 min. I would advise on seam sealer, people don’t know to do that and say the tent leaks. When you pierce fabric with a needle.... come on people... seal the seams, its easy af. Great tent, will buy again for my truck. I love it and it is huge, his GF can stand up inside and she’s at least twice as tall as a midget!
