I really like the basic no frills design of this 5 inch vice. It has very good weight and clamping pressure, feels like it will last a lifetime, and would be a good workbench vice for smaller objects. Since the vice is heavy and low profile, you could absolutely use it without bolting it down, allowing more flexibility in how you position the vice, where you use it and how you store it. The vice includes hardware to bolt it down using the slots on either side, which is great if you need to put a lot of force into what you're clamping. The vice also includes gloves to protect your hands from cuts, which is a nice bonus. I typically use a vice on my electronics/soldering bench for holding and positioning things, and this product is perfect for that. Other small vices tend to slide around and lose grip pressure, making it harder to work. This product would be great for a drill press, but note that only flat serrated grip plates are included (but can be swapped out). The plates do not have a V-groove for holding round objects upright, but you could use V-groove grip plates or put a right angle bracket in the grips to help with this. One of my favorite features that you don't see on many vices is the quick release button, which means you won't need to spend a long time opening and closing the grips for different size objects. The 5" vice is an excellent deal at $41, other products I've looked at are more expensive and less functional that this item. Highly recommend!

In the past I used a single point clamp to hold work pieces in place on the work table of my small drill press. But now with this add-on vise I can more securely clamp work pieces in solidly in place during work processes. The vise is bolted securely in place on the drill press work table with 4 supplied bolts. A small, low quality wrench of the proper size is even included that matches the bolts – so I affixed it to the work table along side the vise by means of a small permanent magnet. Between the perfectly aligned slots on my drill press work table and those on the vise the vise position on the work table can be adjusted to best align your work piece to the desired location beneath the drill bit. The vise features a quick adjustment button that releases the threaded rod which is used to clamp the movable jaw against the work piece. This allows quick and easy adjustment of the jaws of the vise when changing from different sized pieces. This vise is a simple clamping devise. Unlike some other higher priced vises it does not have provision for X and Y adjustments nor for fine tuning of the work piece positioning. Those positioning adjustments must be made by loosening the 4 bolts holding it on the drill's work table and moving this whole device as needed and then re-tightening the 4 bolts.

I have the 3" Vise. I am sure it is not as heavy duty as the larger vises, but it is what I needed for my small drill press. The mounting holes in the vise line up with the holes in my drill press table. I will only bolt down the vise when I need to make repetitive holes. Otherwise the vise will float on my drill press table. The vise clamps very well. The quick release feature makes clamping very fast. Press the button, slide the clamp, release the button, and tighten. I am very happy with this vise. Fits my needs perfectly.

This vise is easy to use with direct (bolts provided) or clamp mounting. The quick release located on the top of the vise deck is both convenient and functional to allow set-up resets on the fly. Materials of construction are industrial which have the added value of 110 degree swivel available via the jaw assembly placed on a circular mount that is integral to the drill table anchor bolts. You have to loosen the table mount to change position. When married with the somewhat standardized drill table slots you have considerable ability to move the work into position. So far highly recommended due to the ability to adjust the work. Note the depth of the jaws is approximately 1".

Very nice drill press vise, comes with everything you need for the standard drill press. Unfortunately, the press I have has T-slots instead of cut all the way through, so the bolts were much to long. Easy enough to fix next time I run to the hardware store though. The vise itself is very nice, smooth to open and close, and the quick release button is great to get it to approximate size before using the threads. It holds great, and made drilling easy.

this drill press vice is more than heavy duty and exactly what I needed for my DIY drill press rig. The screw mechanism is smooth and by appearance with just minimum care will last a long time. The screw down locking is a definite plus, wishing I had gotten one of these a long time ago
