I replaced my previous painted wood, slow close toilet seat with this one - mainly because painted wood does not stand up well to regular cleanings. Obviously there are differences, but mostly that this plastic seat is not heavy duty. It seems sturdy enough, but I would not consider it to be heavy duty. I also find that despite how much I tighten the screws, the seat still has some movement. ... show more

    • Installatio was a breeze! Removing the old seat was awful.

I installed my old seat 17 years ago, when I was a youngster of 65, with a very bad back. It featured the nylon screws and nuts. As I remember it was a rather quick and fairly easy installation. However, removing it today was a REAL PAIN! I think I loosly tighened with fingers, tightened, then a couple turns with a screwdriver cinched it. However, those Nylon nuts were super tight now, and needed to be held from below (with a #15 Metric Box/open end wrench. I could not get a pair of pliers or a crescent on them while I was bent over the toilet with my back screaming! Took me probably about a half hour to try various wrenches and pliers, then go out to the garage and find my metric tools, another 10 or 15 minutes EACH to get them off. The nylon screws are about 2" long and the slots are VERY Shallow, and I had to use a LOT of pressure on the screwdriver to keep from stripping the head, while struggling to hold the combination wrench. I don't have a wide enough screw driver that would properly fit my DeWalt battery-powered screw driver/drill with a very wide and shallow nylon screw. This is a very small half bath, with very little clearance for the stool between the vanity and wall. Conversely, installing the new seat took about 10 minutes total. I dampened, then pushed the pre-assembled rubber grommets with screws through from the top, then lightly tightened. I installed the seat, adjusted it to fit just right, then finished tightening. Then removed the top, installed the chrome caps, and put the seat back in. VERY EASY. Wish I had this seat 17 years ago. I am not sure if I like the 'slow close', but I am very pleased with the apparent quality of the seat overall. Won't know about sturdiness for 8 or 10 years. ... show more

    • Never heard of a weight limit for a toilet seat

As usual, the Chinese instructions were not-so-good English, but good enough to figure out what they meant. There were also mystery pieces that were not covered. Installation was alright, except for a couple of things. The screw never tightened until I used one set of the mystery pieces. Once tightened, the seat would NOT come off so I can install the caps. Since it's mostly out of sight, we skipped this step. And to top it off, it has a 400 lb. weight limit, which you won't know about until you read the extra print under a strange heading. If toilet seats are now having weight limits, then it should me mentioned on the sales page. ... show more

This plastic seat is lightweight compared to the typical seat. I replaced mine with this one, because my old usual seat was scratched up. The quiet close feature is nice, because it saves time to close the seat quietly. Rather than carefully placing it down, you can just get it started and it does the rest.
