  • Refined, luxurious, high quality turntable
Initially, I wasn’t sure if I should drop the money on this table. A little pricey, the manufacturer was slightly unknown to me, not many reviews. I am very glad I did decide to pick it up, however, as it has been a great purchase. The Classic reminds me of an upscale Denon DP300f. The platter and tone arm are similar, and I noticed I was able to use the same belt between the two. But after that, the similarities disappear. The Classic makes the DP300f look like a boutique, cheap record player. The Classic has a beautiful walnut finish, and gorgeous silver accents. The Classic also has a high-quality MM phono preamp built in that sounded better than the one that came with my Emotiva basX TA1. You can bring your own RCA cables to the table, which I did, using a pair of BJC 1 meter interconnects to feed my Emotiva from the Classic. The Classic also comes with a Music Hall Spirit cart, that while sufficient, you will want to replace at some point. It is made for Music Hall by AT, and looks an awful lot like the old AT95e with a different stylus. It has that similar sound too, tracks decent enough, but lacks the refinement of some of the slightly more expensive carts available in this range. I swapped it off for a ATVM95EN first, which helped make the sound more analog, but when I swapped to the Denon DL103, I found audio nirvana. I had to switch to the MC preamp inside the Emotiva (due to the 103 being an MC), but the combination of the Classic, the DL103, the Emotiva basX TA1 and Martin Logan Motion 60i’s is absolutely fantastic. The Classic exudes refinement. From the touch-sensitive speed buttons on the front to the auto stop and lift at the end of the record, the Classic is quiet, smooth, and sounds amazing. I have been very pleased with this purchase. ... show more

  • What a cool turntable.
I think its rare today to purchase something that marries classic design with modern technology and creates the feeling that you are using something special. This turntable makes me feel that way everytime l play a record. Besides the fact that it just plain looks cool, it also performs very well. Everything you need to enjoy vinyl out of the box is included and was set up and ready to play in under 15min. This deck is also easily upgradable but l like the way it sounds so I'll be leaving it alone until l need to make a change with the cartridge/stylus etc. The semi automatic function works great so far and its been an absolute pleasure to use and enjoy. Unless you are looking for that last 5 percent of audio greatness, this deck will be very satisfying to own... ... show more

  • PLAYBACK SOUNDS TOO SLOW ESPECIALLY ON HIGH NOTES
Setting up is quite easy. However, there is way too much "wow" on playback; sounds like the speed is going too fast at the very beginning of any LP, and as the playback progresses it sounds like it is slowing down here and there and as well as on high notes. Other reviews on other sites about this Classic model have also mentioned that there are issues with the playback speed, and that when they had measured the speed amd had contacted Roy Hall (president and founder of Music Hall Audio) they have been told, by Mr. Hall) that the playback speed is within "the tolorance" for this model. I am in the process of returning the item and have no plans to buy another Music Hall Turntable ever again. There is reason, especially with a $649 turntable to have to put up with fourth rate quality. ... show more

  • Beyond Impressed!
I’ve been really enjoying this turntable for almost 6 months. It replaced 15 year old Sony turntable and was immediately a game changer! The sound of my vinyl collection came alive in a way it hadn’t before. On top of that, it looks stunning, I just get lost watching it spin records. I paired it with a Marantz network receiver (NR1200) and together with some Polk bookshelf speakers it creates a warm sharp sound that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Oh yeah, the auto-lift is the cherry on top, nothing like not having to race over in the middle of cooking to stop the rotation. ... show more

  • If you value both auto-stop and auto-lift, this is the semi-auto table to get in this price range.
Very happy with the Music Hall Classic. If you value both auto-stop and auto-lift, this is the semi-auto table to get in this price range. And if you lack a decent pre-amp, it's an even clearer choice. For everything you are getting, thIs is a great value. All-in-all the Music Hall Classic sounds great out for the box. I did swap out the included cartridge with an Ortofon Blue; decent upgrade but not a necessary one. Yes, competing tables do come with the Blue included, but the MH Classic's baseline features and build quality more than make up for it. The real star of this table is the auto-lift feature. It really makes operating a breeze given the que lever is set in the ideal position after playback. This helps prevent the user from manually placing the needle and scratching your records. Think of it as added protection from less savy freinds and family. Also, while the que lever itself is light, the actual needle drop has always been smooth for me. After 6 months and thousands of records I've only discovered the semi-automatic features fail with one album, Rush's 2012. Was clearly related to the record's etched in designs. Only other con would be the auto-lift winding sound can be a noisy, but it gets better over time. Strongly recommended. ... show more

  • Cheap tonearm drop mechanism
Nice appearing but more sensitive to external vibrations than a Fluance turntable at 1/2 price. the damped stylus dropping mechanism is not smooth, feels very flimsy, cheap. Would not recommend
