My MSR Whisperlite must be over 30 years old. I guess it was a bit much to expect it to actually work when I pulled it out for a bikepacking trip this fall. Fortunately, I tested it before the trip, and found that it leaked. The easiest fix was to simply replace the pump with this unit. Well, not as good as the original from 30 yrs ago but better than the couple of iterations they had in between. More finicky and while the stove has a reputation of full-on or off with nothing in between the original pump and valve was much more tunable than this one is. Exactly the part I needed. After 14 years my original dragon fly fuel pump gave up the ghost. This replacement part got the stove back up and running. Great price, fast shipping. Also came with replacement foil base and windscreen, as well as pump cup oil.

My original lasted 20 years. Though the original pump is now broken slightly, it is not a dangerous issue and still works as a backup. The new pump is built much better and made of better materials especially in the places that needed to be tougher. I am very happy with the pump and the entire device. My Whisper stove has stood the test of time and the abuses from flawlessly igniting and cooking 100's of hot meals often prepared at times during an excursion when I was either too tired, too cold, too wet, or D) all the above to even consider being gentle with my kit. This is about the only piece of kit that has survived so well, and this replacement part will give me another 20 years and likely more. Bonus: Came with a new aluminium heat shield set (bottom and side) like the original kit. ... show more

Strange choice by MSR to include 3 items not listed anywhere on the box. The pump oil is appreciated and a great maintenance reminder. But why include the aluminum items? They're not needed, or wanted. Maybe they're so cheap they don't add appreciably to the cost, but it's environmentally irresponsible to send us stuff we didn't ask for. Besides, these items are immortal. A rolling pin smooths out any wrinkles and they're good as new. My set is 25+ years old. If people need those things, they can buy them separately. (or better yet, make their own out of lighter materials). Took off 1 star for environmental irresponsibility. ... show more
