  • Attractive, High-Value Motherboard
The MSI MAG Tomahawk Z790 motherboard is an excellent choice for any new pc build and presents a tremendous value for the money. I purchased this item as the centerpiece to my first custom built pc and could not be more pleased with the quality, aesthetics and overall functionality of the device. This item has a handy flash BIOS button which makes updating the BIOS a breeze. Visually, this motherboard is sleek and sexy, with an understated military-industrial design that is inoffensive and lacks the cringe-inducing, unnecessary text (i.e. "gamerz unite") found on comparable motherboards. The MSI BIOS is easy enough to use and did not present me with any problems. For the money, I'd be hard pressed to find a motherboard that's higher quality or more visually appealing. I like that this motherboard is simple, elegant and easy to understand. I had no trouble installing this hardware. The heatsinks are high quality and durable. As a first time pc builder, I couldn't have chosen a better motherboard to round out my build. I'd gladly buy another MSI motherboard for a future build in light of my experience with the Tomahawk Z790--I really can't say enough good things about this product. ... show more

  • MSI for the win
The best motherboard I've ever tested in this price range and quite frankly all you need for a 14900k unless you need to have a Gen 5 SSD in your build. Broad range of connectivity with several USB C ports Fantastic bios interface that is easy to use and configure to DRASTICALLY improve CPU performance if you're willing to put in the work in learning it Fantastic VRMs, very powerful, responsive, and stable power delivery that handles the i9-14900k well Sleek all black look Cons No Gen 5 SSD Support (for me that's not an issue since it's truly not needed for most users especially gamers like myself) VRMs can run a touch hot if you don't have enough case fans are running full load, generally NOT an issue ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY MSI-if you do, check your CPU socket pins!!! DO NOT BUY MSI-if you do, check your CPU socket pins!!!
I would give a negative star review if I could. I am a very experienced system builder...and I build custom rigs for my customers. I have been an a MSI supporter for years...however, for this custom build MSI has let me down hard. My customer settled on this board, and I got it on order, originally showed 2 day shipping, and then came all the delays. Got it week late. As I unboxed the MB, I noticed a sticker that was removed from the box, this should have been my first clue that something was wrong. The MB was not wrapped in the static bag as a usual item should be, and it was a bit open, second clue. As I lifted the MB out of the box, I heard it rattle, the socket pin protector was at the bottom of the bag...WTF. I pulled the MB out of the bag, and immediately saw 3 pins missing from the socket. I pulled out my inspection scope for a closer look, and found 6 missing pins, drop the pictures (attached) it might be hard to see them all...but 6 are missing. When this MB was purchased, I checked the purchase new box, and I got a damaged, unusable, piece of garbage...SHAME ON YOU MSI!!! Had I not been as experienced, these flaws could have damaged the CPU, memory, on and on...SHAME!!! The customer was very disappointed as this system was for his sons Birthday which is in less than one week due to the first delay...and now this won't be ready until after his son's birthday...I am beyond crushed over this after talking very highly about MSI to my customers...the customer also elected to go with an ASUS MB as a replacement for this epic failure...SHAME!!! ... show more

  • Decent board, it lacking in features
Idk what’s been going on with MSI & some of the other big brand motherboard manufacturers, but spending 200+ for a board that lack features, feels more like a $100 mobo, & is hit or miss on QC is unacceptable. It used to be that if you spent over $200 for a Z series board that you were getting a solid mid range board, but it looks like they’ve decided to bump their mid range boards to $280-$400 , which is crazy. If I buy a mid range COU why would I spend the same amount, if not more, on a Mobo? This makes no sense. The lack of ports, weak support & bios, along with a litany of issues of overvolting, waiting for patches that should haven’t been an issue with a new board, etc. Is ridiculous when you’re asking your consumer to spend $200+ on these boards. It gets the job done (depending on what you’re trying to do & what you need). However, I wouldn’t recommend this board in good conscious to a new builder, not only with how difficult they’ve made simple plug & play task & on the account that this board should be no more than $150. ... show more

  • Good value motherboard Good value motherboard
This review offers a different perspective on this motherboard. Having seen some returns, I wanted to share my experience, which has been very positive overall. Solid Features and Performance: This motherboard packs a powerful punch. It delivers excellent performance for gamers and content creators. The VRMs handle overclocking well (if that's your thing), and the board supports DDR5 memory for smooth operation. Plenty of Storage and Connectivity: Four M.2 slots, with one supporting PCIe 5.0, provide ample space for blazing-fast NVMe drives. Additionally, the board boasts many SATA ports for traditional storage needs. Connectivity is top-notch with Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5GbE LAN. User-Friendly and Looks Great: MSI's BIOS is well-designed. The all-black aesthetic with no built-in RGB might only be for some, but it offers a clean and professional look that complements various builds. Plus, there are RGB headers for those who want to add their flair. Great Value: Considering the feature set and performance you get, the MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WiFi offers excellent value for the price. It's a fantastic option for gamers and content creators on a budget who don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles of higher-end models. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It delivers excellent performance, a robust feature set, and a user-friendly design, all at a competitive price point. If you're looking for a reliable and powerful Z790 motherboard that won't break the bank, I highly recommend this one. ... show more

  • Amazing Value for High Featured Motherboard Amazing Value for High Featured Motherboard
The MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi is a compelling option for budget-minded gamers and content creators seeking a feature-rich ATX motherboard. It boasts excellent value, with Wi-Fi 6E for high-speed wireless connectivity, four M.2 slots for NVMe storage, and a robust selection of I/O ports including 2.5GbE LAN. The all-black design seamlessly integrates with black-themed builds, and MSI's reputation for quality and warranty support provides further assurance. While there are a few limitations to consider. Users seeking flashy RGB lighting will need to look elsewhere, though the board does offer headers for adding your own RGB strips. The presence of just a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot might limit futureproofing potential as PCIe 5.0 devices become more commonplace. Additionally, some reviewers have noted that the VRM heatsinks may not be ideal for heavy overclocking. Overall, the MSI Z790 Tomahawk WiFi delivers exceptional value and functionality for the mainstream user, making it a strong contender for your next PC build. ... show more
