Overview: Fantastic MATX motherboard. My previous build was atx form factor and my motherboard was a b350 tomahawk. When building my new PC in the O11D mini V1 there was an option to use a matx motherboard which was ideal for cable management. The sleek black motherboard blends seamlessly with the back of my case and the green logo is not easily visible when lighting is on (very happy about this). Duel nvme gen 5 slots allow me to dualboot Linux and windows which this motherboard handles seamlessly. Additionally the build quality is impressively robust and for the price point it would be hard to point in a different direction for AM5 architecture. My 9800X3D was easily overclocked, bios firmware was polished, and DDR5 ram was easily able to be OC. Nerd Talk: Let me start with saying that it's a night and day difference, build quality is premium, comes will all the bells and whistles | 2 shielded/cooled nvme gen 5 slots, 1 nvme gen 4 slot, pcie 5.0 (quick release button is very nice), wifi 7/bluetooth, and a sleek color scheme that doesn't conflict with any RGB lighting (very happy with this). Fan headers were adequate for matx formfactor, did not need any splitters with 4 separate daisy chained fan locations. Bluetooth and wifi connectivity is impressive however I mainly use lan to reduce ping but nice for controllers. Heat sink keeps my NVME drives impressively cool. Coming from an ASUS TUF B650M, this motherboard has been nothing short of great to work with. The bios settings for voltages, specifically VSOC and the DDR5 DIMM, actually change when you set them to different values. The bios is super easy to navigate and it is not confusing as there is not multiple settings of the same kind to change. My system started right up after an M-FLASH to the latest bios version, and I am currently running a 9800x3d and 6400mhz cl32 DDR5 at EXPO with altered values, and it runs flawlessly with the tweaks I've made to lower voltages down without instability. Please take a look at this for your next MFF/SFF build, you won't regret it. Would like to point out that the PCIE slot would align with the top most slot on the motherboard, allowing for better GPU width clearance at the cost of possible cooler position conflicts.     • The mATX board to get!

This is such a great matx board. As of right now, I think it is the best value and up to date mb out ther for matx. The board is very stable, I paired it with a processor aimed at productivity with 64 gb ddr5 6000 and a nvdia gpu. I was able to push all cores to just below 5.8 ghz with only a 240 aio, average temps at that point were at at 94c. I just wanted to check how far I can push the processor while keeping it stable, ram was oc'd to 6400, running very stable as well. I run the whole system with a corsair rm850x, the psu didnt really break a sweat. The board supports pcie gen 5 for the two front facing m.2 slots and the bonus slot on the rear ofr the board runs @ pcie gen 4. The graphics card slot is higher up on the board, closer to the cpu compared to most asus boards. That might be important if you are building in a tight matx case as I did. The board is also equipped with wifi 7 and here's something you wont find on other matx boards, a 5gb ethernet port. 10gb would have been a dream but 5gb is plenty enough for my use. The bios for the board can be really simple but if you dig in, you will find all the settings you can expect to find to overclock your cpu and ram. If you are into rgb lighting, there are enough argb connectors for that. Mystic Light is more stable than ever, just make sure to get rgb devices that are compatible with msi mystic light. So, for what it's worth, I am highly confident that the MSI Mortar is the mATX motherboard that will be more than good enough for most diy builders out there looling for a high quality motherboard. Also important to note, this board has no known backdoor at this time and nor does the MSI software give any access to remotely run malicious code on your pc. I habe not tested this board on linux but, I assume it will work just as flawlessly. ... show more

purchased this in september. ethernet stopped working 3 days after the return windows closed and now the wifi is dead. the bios app doesn't handle dual booting well and had to be creative with settings. switched from Asus after years and am regretting that. need to buy a new board. don't want to wait for customer support to run me around to actually get help. 1 try, done with msi. ... show more

Not much to say about this MoBo. Gets the job done. Plenty of nice features for being a mATX and at this price range you cannot go wrong. Installed a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with KLEVV DDR5 6000mhz 28CL and a Nvidia 5080 FE.

Excellent value. Paired with Ryzen 9950x and 5090 in a Jonsbo D32 Pro. This had100% of the X870 capabilities that I needed for hundreds less. WiFi 7, Gen5 PCIe for GPU, dual Gen5 M.2 support when paired with Ryzen 9xxx CPU, tool-less M2 installation, easy and innovative unlock/lock GPU system.
