  • Great brand, great machine
Style Name: 17.3"|RTX2070 |144Hz|i7|32GB |512GB...
Love this laptop! It's efficient, fast, and effective, decent graphics card, good FPS, etc. My only complaint is that there aren't quite enough USB ports for everything I'd like; there are two on either side of the laptop. I highly recommend MSI machines; they have great customer service and the machines themselves last forever! ... show more

  • Good laptop. However at start up loud cooling fan! Sounds like an airplane taking off!

Screen quality good. Also like the color lit keyboard. Do not like the loud fan! Fan starts up immediately upon powering up the laptop. Even when computer is idle fan is often running. Very distracting, difficult to have phone conversation, or web meeting with loud fan noise.

  • Quality laptop
Style Name: 17.3"|RTX2070 |144Hz|i7|32GB |512GB...
This was well worth the money as the laptop performs with lightning speed and crystal clear resolution. Even though I did not purchase it for gaming purposes I needed something with a lot of power and I don’t think I could’ve bought a better laptop.

  • Chronic Overheating While Gaming
Style Name: 17.3"|RTX2070 |144Hz|i7|32GB |512GB...
Summary: I've had my GS75 for just under a year, and it is a great, super compact machine. I take it everywhere and I love the track pad, keyboard, and 17" screen. The Steelseries keyboard feels high quality, and the trackpad feels like glass. The Nvme SSD is a must for brand new laptops, so i'm happy with that hardware selection. It's also really easy to add a second Nvme SSD if desired. The chassis seems pretty well designed and does not flex terribly, despite the slim profile and large screen. All that being said.... if you intend to play modern games on this laptop, please read my review thoroughly... My specific model has an RTX-2070 max q GPU and the i7-9750H CPU. These are really powerful processors, and are more than capable of running modern AAA games on Ultra settings, HOWEVER... presumably due to the limitations of the super slim design, the MSI heat-sink responsible for cooling the processors is absolutely, indisputably undersized and will ultimately result in premature CPU failure, not to mention lava hot temperatures during gaming. Here are some values based on my experience, both before and after reapplying top-of-the-line thermal compound to the GPU, CPU, and Voltage Regulator Modules: CPU Overheating Issues: CPU immediately reaches 95°C under a dismal 35% load in games with varying cores/threads active. The CPU thermal throttles at 95°C to prevent the component from melting (Intel claims it can operate safely below 99°C, but anyone who knows computers will be keen to point out that this an absurd operating temperature and will lead to failure.) Stress testing in Cinebench with all cores/threads active will cause the CPU to throttle as low as 3.0 GHz on a chip that is designed to boost to 4.0Ghz. It's honestly surprising to me that there aren't lawsuits about this sort of thing. MSI should not be pairing powerful processors with defined TDP values with heat sinks that clearly aren't capable of rejecting the TDP. After re-pasting my chip, I saw a slight improvement in thermals, but will still operate in the low 90°C during gaming, and will absolutely thermal throttle at 95°C during a stress test. Re-pasting isn't a simple task as the motherboard is flipped and must be completely removed to access the heat-sink and processors (again, this is just the nature of current ultra thin gaming laptop design). In an effort to prevent my CPU from melting into a puddle of silicone despair, I use Throttlestop to undervolt 135mV and I limit the boost clock to 3.5 Ghz. This helped, but did not solve the inherent overheating issues. The CPU hovers around 93°C while playing games like Far Cry 5, Borderlands 3, F1 2019, GTA V. It's only a matter of time before the chip fails at these temperatures. The GPU hangs around 85°C under full load in gaming. Maybe the Max-Q design is meant to operate at higher temperatures, but 85°C in a desktop would be alarming. The laptop comes with MSI's Dragon Center app pre-installed which defaults the GPU to a core overclock and memory overclock. If you do decide to gamble on this laptop, avoid using the "Turbo" overclocked GPU settings, because they will just contribute the overheating issues. Pros: Sweet RGB keyboard, great trackpad, nice 144hz 17" display, tough chassis, Super fast NVme SSD, thin and portable, cool external design, extra m.2 SSD slot and up-gradable RAM. If the thermals weren't an issue, I would give it 5+ stars. Cons: CPU and GPU will overheat while gaming, out of the box, motherboard is flipped. Unfortunately, the laws of thermodynamics prevail and the processors will put out more heat than the heat sink can reject. Consider getting the weakest processor they offer to avoid thermal issues. I tried to warranty and was told there would be a 30 business day turnaround, and I can't swing that as this is my primary computer. MSI shouldn't put powerful processors in a laptop that doesn't allow the processors to operate at 100%. That's like putting a V10 Ferrari Engine in a Prius and telling the owner, "Just don't ever press the gas pedal more than 30% of the way down or the car will explode." ... show more

  • Difficulty setting up
Style Name: 17.3"|RTX2070 |144Hz|i7|32GB |512GB...
I got this to replace an older MSI I use for gaming. I am NOT a tech savvy person, so it's important to me to find simple solutions to problems. The quick start guide is pretty much plug and go (a good thing). But then the hoops appear. There is no printed owner's manual. There IS an owner's manual in the Dragon Center, which I found by accident. But this is a generic MSI manual, and each model has it's own quirks. My first concern was that the lighted keyboard continued to flash colors, which I could not change. This model does NOT have an LED wizard to change the keyboard lights, and nowhere in the Dragon Center is this addressed. I checked the online forms, which all refer to the LED wizard. Went to the on-line help desk for MSI, but you have to register the laptop to get any support; to register I needed to supply a copy of the invoice, which I do not have. Called the MSI helpline, to explain the issue; they got it registered and then sort of talked me through changing the back-lighting. The path he gave me was not exactly the path that is on this comp, but it worked (you have to go through the Steel Keyboard file). Now the issue is that this laptop will not allow me to add a headset (there is no "add device" in the sound section of the control panel). I'm tired of jumping through hoops. ... show more

  • 2 hour gaming charge

The fan gets noisy when things heat up, and without the plug you'll only get 2 or 3 hours of play time, depending on how low you turn your screen brightness. I think both these things are pretty standard with gaming rigs though. Otherwise, no critiques. Great laptop.

I’ve had this for 6 months now, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m rough on laptops. It’s traveling all of the time, backpack, airport, work, rinse and repeat, and she’s still going like just out of the box. I honestly can’t comment about battery life, as I can count on one hand how many times it’s been used on just battery, but I’ve never been disappointed. I do also use this for work, so occasionally I’ll work on a spreadsheet on the plane, but never more than a few hours. I’m playing primarily Blizzard games and have never had any issues, as a matter of fact, I turned the graphics down because they were so good, it was distracting. Like “Look! Ooooo Aaaaah! So realistic! All the this pretty blowing grass! Yeah, I gotta turn that off, I can’t find the key I’m looking for. Show me just mud.” This was my first MSI, and I’ll be a customer from now on. I may not be a rockstar in real life, but I sure look and feel like one in all my games. ... show more
