  • Overall, a GREAT machine with only a couple minor complaints.
Generally, I'm amazed by this computer, and absolutely LOVE it! It is HUGE, and outstanding for gaming. I can play super beefed-up Minecraft modpacks (some with over 200 mods!) with ZERO lag. I also recently purchased GTA V for PC, and this machine runs it flawlessly. It NEVER lags in the least bit when playing, although it does become a bit warm when under a heavy load for extended periods of time. Through the included MSI software, though, you can adjust the fan settings to constantly run faster or softer as best suits your program(s). I love its appearance as well - it is predominantly black in brushed aluminum, with a plastic base. The corners of the screen housing (lid) are slightly "angled," like a frame. But, it still has a "professional" looking appearance, as it is more-or-less rectangular like your "typical" laptop. And, it just has the simple (but cool) red dragon logo on the lid, plus the red-outlined LED-backlit keyboard. What you won't find the are crazy, flashing RGB lights, childish colors, obscurely-molded (curved) chassis, or any of the ugly "bulges" out the back that many other manufacturers of gaming notebooks include. Moving on, the keyboard is fantastic. It has good travel, with a reasonably soft, tactile response. I would say it is slightly "bouncy," which is a feature I always look for in ANY notebook keyboard. The touchpad, however, was a bit stiff upon initially receiving. It seems to have improved, though, after "breaking" it in for a while. The screen, while not an IPS, is still very nice-looking. You can see the pixels if you look at it closely, but the color rendering is still excellent, it has an insanely-high resolution (at least coming from what I'm used to) and has teriffic response rates. When gaming, everything looks quite realistic - which I would expect and want from this sort of notebook. Before moving on to my slight complaints, I did want to mention a few other useful tips. First off, the webcam is DISABLED by default. I ended up having to turn to Google to figure out how to activate the webcam, as the F6 key is used to disable the webcam hardware and even ELIMINATE it from the system devices list. This is great from a security standpoint, but was a horrible nuisance before I found out about it - I tried going to Device Manager and Windows 10 Troubleshooting, but to no avail... If you want to use the camera, you MUST remember to hit Fn-F6 each time. Aside from the camera, the battery life is TERRIBLE. When "maxed-out," you'd be very lucky to get even a full hour off the battery - making it more like a UPS. But, this isn't surprising in the least - it only has a 3 cell battery, and guzzles 120+ watts just from the CPU and GPU themselves when under full load. So, it's better-suited as a desktop replacement (as I'm using it), than your "on the go" notebook both due to its power demands and sheer size. However, there are a couple minor things that DO slightly annoy me. The first is that it came with one small, stuck blue pixel towards the top-middle section of the screen. At this pricepoint, that type of defect (albeit quite minor) is still NOT something I'd want to see. Even the screens on most $200 and below "cloud" or Chrome notebooks I've seen are 100% flawless, but because it isn't a major issue in normal use and just happens to be a "random" defect, I'm not dinging any stars. Sadly, that type of defect typically falls outside of most quality control processes, and warranty won't cover it. Finally, there is just a little bit of flex in the keyboard deck and upper chassis around the power button, and the lid does flex somewhat. With these exceptions, though, it feels pretty solid and that it wouldn't simply break under normal use. With my minor gripes aside, I would still recommend this machine in a heartbeat! It is WELL worth the money for its outstanding specs, cool (but functional) design, and extreme performance. ... show more

  • So far... SUPER impressed!
I bought this because another machine I bought (an ACER) failed after only several months of ownership and because I needed a replacement and this MSI machine had a good price point. It was about a month in, and I decided that this might very well be the best machine I have ever owned. So, I bought another one for my office and another one for my home. And frankly, months and months later, all three machines are continuing to perform well above my expectations. High-end business graphics, gaming, general office use, school, etc., all awesome! Magnificent machines. If they can keep up this kind of quality, I might very well be a customer for life. ... show more

  • Not worth the money
Super lightweight. Mouse pad is horrible. The battery dies fast when unplugged. Kinda let down.

  • Laptop arrived with bad battery.
Battery would not charge. As soon as the charger was unplugged, the computer would turn off. Tried multiple charge cords because we own multiple MSI laptops. Contacted MSI tech support and had us try to reset the battery, then told us that we should return it.
