  • Completely replaces traditional HVAC with higher efficiency!
Style: 12K Size: 4th gen
For our new house-build we considered traditional HVAC and mini-splits. It turns out that all of the higher-quality house-builds are now going to mini-splits for two major reasons: 1) Better total efficiency; 2) superior "zone-control." These MrCool units satisfy both of those conditions and at an excellent, easy-to-install price-point. The SEER rating is excellent, better than any other alternative I could find, and about three times more efficient than traditional HVAC units. So, we purchased four of these: three 12,000 BTU and one 18,000 BTU (for our great room). This has played out in actual practice, as we've lived in the new house now for a couple of months and run the units for almost six months. It's pretty sweet to see all four of these collectively drawing about 18 AMPs of 120v compared to traditional whole-hose HVAC units that would be drawing upwards of 40 AMPs of 240v! These both heat and cool our house wonderfully! There are numerous other mini-split options available, but three things settled me on MrCool: First, these can be self-installed, as they are self-contained units with specially-designed lines that don't require special HVAC tools. So, even if you have them professionally installed, as we did, it's a cheaper installation, which ours was. Second, the "compressor" part that mounts outside is much smaller and quieter than other comparable units. We've found that this part of the reviews is really true. We have four of these compressors mounted below our second-story back deck, and they are effectively silent, even running full-air! Third, these have the best SEER rating we could find, and, as I said above, we have observed it in actual usage. With all four units running in the summer, the whole collection pulls something like 1/5 the total juice that a comparable traditional HVAC system would be drawing. Just incredible. Now, one point that might be easily overlooked that bears special mention is that these are heat-pump units! That has pros (for us) that might be cons for you, so be informed! Heat pump units will not work as effectively in just any part of the country. You have to look at your particular climate range to know if they will work for you in the winter. If your winters are too cold, you are less likely to get good output and efficiency from heat-pump units. You need to have "moderate" winters, as we do in southern Tennessee. But if you are in a proper climate range (which amounts to most of the USA), you'll be amazed at the efficiency. The other point about these being heat pump units (rather than "element" heat) is that they are not "instant-on" for heating. It takes a minute or so for the heat pump to get to work and then start sending the scavenged heat into your room. So, if you expect to turn on heat and immediately feel heat, these are not what you would expect. The heat is excellent once the heat pump gets "up to speed," but that does take a minute or two. So, don't directly compare these to instant-heat "element" units (that, by the way, are much more power-wasters!). If you understand what you want, and you live in a proper climate zone (MOST of the USA), these are going to blow your mind for efficiency and distribution of both heating and cooling! ... show more

  • Mr. Cool Split 12k BTU is amazing!
Style: 12K Size: 4th gen
Well, so far….so wonderful! We watched videos and read the instruction, first of all. Hubby then laid out all the parts and they were all intact, well packed too. He then poured a concrete pad for the outside compressor and allowed it to dry and cure. Once he knew everything was ready, he took his time, a few hours, and installed the unit. WOW, AMAZING! Both inside and outside units are whisper quiet; can’t really hear the inside unit on the other side of the room. When I returned home from work, we installed the USB unit so we could control the system remotely from the app and from Alexa….this is great! Please be sure you take your time and follow instructions. Watch some YouTube videos, good ones, because there are definitely some lousy ones that will get you into trouble during install. All said and done? The install was easy and this unit will save you so much money because you don’t need to hire a pro. Cooling and Heating is so comfortable, without blowing hard or loudly into the room. The fan mode works well, as well. Right now I canno say enough about this system….wish we would’ve purchased this years ago. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your Mr. Cool as much as we do. Will add indoor pics soon. UPDATE: We’ve been using this unit daily and are absolutely impressed! We live in the desert so this time of year morning temps are in the 40s and daytime in the 80s, therefore we use AC and heat in the same day and this Mr. Cool is impressive, to say the least. I’m so hoping it is quality and holds up because we’re so happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Mr Cool Mini Split DIY
Style: 24k Size: 4th gen
Arrived on time. Easy to install, but takes some time. Had an electrician run the electrical from the panel to the cut off. Then I did the rest. It works great! My 3 car garage shop is the right temp. Well worth the money. I saved a ton with this do it yourself version. I had quotes from AC companies up to $12k. I got it done under $3,500 . ... show more

This product was easy to install, good help from tech support, and does a great job heating the garage. Very quiet, and heats pretty evenly with the active shutters working. Highly recommend!!

  • Mr. Cool NOT!!!!!
Style: 36k Size: 4th gen
I purchased this unit which is 36,000BTUs rated for 1500 sq ft for my 1200 sq ft shop. It was pretty easy to install though NOBODY would use a 1/2" conduit connection from the power supply to the condenser, so it should be a 3/4" connection. Other than the crap instructions and pictures, took about 2 days or 10 hours. I am VERY capable of doing this work and will say my 1st attempt at an AC unit of any kind. Bottom line it turned right on, blows cold air despite the poor fan speed and simply is incapable of keeping my shop below 87 degrees, even on some days when it is just above 80 degrees. I did 4 tests all starting around 97, 92, 87, 95 inside and 101, 96, 94, and 83 inside. I NEVER got a reading below 87 degrees in my shop even after running for over 24 hours straight through the night when the temperature outside fell into the low 70s each night. I think I would need 4 of these units to get the workable comfort level that I was expecting. It is too bad, I cannot return it a so I am out 2 days work and $3000. Don't make the same mistake!!!! ... show more
