I was ready to buy a cheaper unit and have my HVAC guy help install it, but scored the Mr. Cool at a great discount which made it a no brainer! The included instructions are not that great, but there are lots of videos online on installing Mr. Cool mini splits. I'd recommend watching assorted ones before you begin. I purchased the MRCOOL 5th Gen 12K BTU 115V unit (DIY-12-HP-WM-115D25O) expecting a streamlined installation. Instead, I ended up $700 out of pocket, with a dead piece of hardware and holes in my walls. To ensure everything was done strictly by the book, I hired a licensed professional electrician to run a dedicated circuit and hook up the unit, which cost me $700. He verified that the outdoor condenser was receiving a perfect 120V of power. Despite a flawless professional electrical installation, the unit immediately threw an E1 Communication Error upon startup. The outdoor compressor refused to engage, rendering the entire system completely useless right out of the box. When I contacted MRCOOL technical support, their troubleshooting protocol was absurd. Instead of addressing a clearly defective product, they required me to completely dismantle the outdoor unit to extract the motherboard just so I could take pictures of the underside of the PCB for them. Expecting a consumer to perform factory-level diagnostics on a brand-new appliance—after already paying a professional to install it—is unacceptable. With my Amazon return window closing, I chose to pack up this heavy, defective hardware and send it back rather than be strung along by warranty delays. Now I am left out $700 for electrical work I no longer need, while patching 3-inch holes in my drywall and sealing exterior walls. If you buy this unit, you are gambling on factory quality control, and the financial risks are high if you lose. Avoid this product. ... show more
