Very simple to use, no bells and whistles of any kind. You put in the filter, coffee, and water, swing the arm in place, turn it on and it makes coffee. Be aware: - So this is a very small coffee maker. 1 cup does not equal 8 oz - no, 1 cup of Mr Coffee coffee is 5 oz. So it really is a single person coffee maker unless you drink pretty small servings and never want a refill. If I had thought more about this, I would have bought a slightly larger maker. I guess the upside of this is that you will always be drinking fresh coffee. - You need small filters for this. They don't really tell you what size though. First, it works and is considerably faster than 12 cup brewers. It does not come with any kind of filter, paper or reusable. I discovered that if you remove the the basket where the filter goes, standard size basket coffee filters work great. While this removes the option taking one cup without dripping, the maker is so fast that such isn't necessary. While the unit works well, it does feel a bit flimsy compared with the 12 cup brewers. Big Pro - this little pot in not only much faster in brewing a few cups than the 10/12 cup size brewers making the same amount. Also, the coffee is significantly hotter as well. ... show more

I bought this to have more counter space but I did not think about the measurement of the depth of the coffee maker which is not as teeny as the carafe... but that is my fault. I have should have checked before I ordered. I do love the size and shape of the carafe. I had to call the manufacturer because there was no instruction on how to clean the machine before using it.     • Delightful and super easy for a coffee newbie

I never have been much of a coffee drinker. (I call myself a "coffee Philistine," I can't tell the difference between gas station coffee and ooh-la-la fancy snob coffee.) I started with coffee for its antioxidant properties (and ooh, coffee is also tasty!). I first got a pour-over setup, which I like. I needed something with a small footprint in my kitchen, and pour-over is great for that. But pour-over has a lot of rules and techniques and sometimes I'm just not up for that. (I'm learning, though!) But after doing my pour-over for a while, I figured, let's investigate a small coffee machine. Do they exist? How do they work? (I have never used a coffee machine in my life. They were always these mysterious contraptions in other people's houses.) After looking at some video reviews on Amazon, I realized that I can do this! I just needed something SMALL that would do just a few cups of coffee at a time. And this machine is PERFECT! I usually drink 16-ish ounces of decaf at a time. This machine does 25 ounces—more than enough! This machine is very intuitive. If I can learn it, anyone can! I am waiting for my little junior basket filters to arrive, so right now I'm using my ooh-la-la V60 pour-over filters (just sort of smooshing them to fit in there) and they're working, though not perfectly. I did learn one tip from a coffee guru on YouTube (James Hoffman). He explained that automatic drip machines don't heat up the water fast enough at first, and the flavor will be improved if the water is hotter from the start (to get more "extraction" from the coffee grounds or something). That is easy enough to do, as I have my tea kettle right on the stove anyway. So far, so good. I do see that it might be a concern if you want to set up your coffee machine and then walk away, because there's no automatic shut-off. But I never did that with pour-over so I'm always hovering around while making the coffee anyway. Update: Got the junior basket filters and they fit perfect—no grounds spilling over or any problems like other reviews here report. The secret is to get the 4-6 cup basket filters, aka “junior” filters. I had to buy them online; the local grocery store didn’t have them. ... show more

This coffee pot is beautiful and seems easy to clean. The measurements on the pot do not seem to match the measurements on the machine. It's about half a cup off. The coffee filter holder is also a little slim for the 5 cup filters. Sometimes the fiter will block the water stream and it somewhat impacts the flavor. We use these little coffee makers twice a day, every day. They typically last 3-4 years, not bad for a $20 appliance. My only complaint is that it only stays on for one hour before automatically shutting off, & there’s no way to extend it besides turning back on. Ordered this one to keep for a backup.
