They light up immediately when the inside door opens and automatically tunr off shortly after you leave the garage. They don't turn on when the garage door opens since they detect both light and motion. Two bulbs stopped working after over a year of heavy usage because the motion sensor broke. I thought this would be normal but tried to contact the seller reporting the problem. They sent me a whole new package with three bulbs for replacement. UPDATE: A company representative reached out to me, asking if i’d like to try their dusk to dawn bulbs. I politely declined since I mainly utilize the garage during daylight hours, making those bulbs unsuitable for my needs. Despite this, our conversation remained highly professional, during which I shared some suggestions for improving the product. Impressively, they not only offered a full refund, but also included smart bulbs as a gift. Its worth noting that my initial review was written without any expectation of refunds or gifts, yet it genuinely portrays my experience. However, it’s their outstanding customer service that compelled me to revisit and append an additional two stars to my rating. ORIGINAL: I installed these in my garage as that is the only place in my house that I consistently forget to turn the light switch off so I figured ordering these lightbulbs will save me money in the long run. The brightness is great, but the sensor not so much. It takes about three or so seconds of me walking around in the dark for the sensor to detect me and it'll turn off roughly at the 30 second mark. Unless you are moving around on the 30th second, the light seems to turn off. This is very annoying as I could be displaying movement for the first 29 seconds, but if it does not detect movement on the 30th, it'll turn off when it should be restarting the internal timer every time it detects a movement regardless of the time interval. I've also noticed that the light will only turn on at night and not during the day. (even though the garage is pretty dark during the day with the blinds closed) ... show more

Purchased 4 packs (3 bulbs each) to use in my outdoor fixtures. The brightness was great the the day/night sensing worked awesome! Unfortunately 9 of the 12 bulbs have failed within 3 months. Even with the relatively low cost I'd rather find a bulb that doesn't need changing so often.

UPDATE: I decided not to return, put one into pantry and two into hallway. Too bad it didn’t work in the garage. Otherwise, those are great! ORIGINAL REVIEW: 1. I put one into garage. The space between the kitchen/garage door is about 8 feet. You have to go directly to the bulb & waive your hands for the bulb to go on. It is installed as directed, i.e. sensor down. 2. I understand the process now yet disappointed: most cars have automatic lights. When you drive into the garage - the bulb doesn’t go on as there’s a lot of light from the vehicle. I am assuming this is because the lightbulbs are dusk till dawn. Car has lights on = lightbulb thinks it’s day time. 3. Works well in the pantry though. Thus 3 stars out of 5. 4.
