I’d been looking at this reel on Moonshines Website and was surprised to find it on Amazon. Ordered it and received 2 days later. Right out of the box I was impressed by the feel and quality of this reel. Took it to my local fly shop to get backing and line put on it and the shop said it was the first one they had seen but were impressed by the price and quality as well.     • A well made, attractive fly reel

When I first saw this reel I thought it seemed pretty simple for such an expensive reel. It didn't take long to realize just how finely crafted this reel is. The machining is so refined and the tolerances are tight - it is just a very nicely made reel. One nice thing about the reel is the removable (meaning interchangeable) spool. Unlike some reels, the knob that attaches the spool to the reel does not come loose - it's part of the spool assembly. Having lost a knob midstream while trying to switch from a floating line to a sink-tip line, this is a great feature! It is really lightweight, and I like the added color scheme with the extra copper color. It just looks nice. The reel also comes with a nice neoprene pouch to protect it from any damage in transit. A word of caution. If you intend to switch over from right-hand retrieve to left, take a look at the short video instructions on the Moonshine website. The video made it a lot clearer how to do it than the paper instructions included with the reel. The paper instructions don't mention the little part and screw that fell out and took me ten minutes to figure out what they were and how to replace them. The video shows you how. One thing to be aware of, the Amazon page mentions a lifetime warranty. Actually, the reel is warrantied for one year, after which you can have it repaired or replace for a $65 fee (current price). In the long run that may work out better, but it pays to know this up front. I'm impressed with the quality of this reel, and I plan on taking a look at a matching Moonshine Rod to go along with this reel in the near future. ... show more

I was underwhelmed to the fact that this is marketed at the price it is and is just not a fantastic product. It should be maybe $180 not more. Through the course of a few days it tore threw all of my fly line (yes the reel was spun and on the rod correctly) and between the eyes of the same companies rod the line would bunch and pull through instead of out the top eye. Sad to say but unless they can make up for this I will never recommend. ... show more

I first heard of Moonshine Rod Co. about six months ago when I ran across one of their fly rods here on Amazon. It looked like a really nice rod and others seemed to like it, so I took a chance and ordered it. I was really impressed with the overall quality of the rod. Quality-wise it’s every bit as good as one of my upper-level Orvis rods. And that brings us to this fly reel. I am equally impressed with the overall quality of this Creede fly reel. It is lightweight, but it is very sturdy/solid, and it is machined incredibly well. I looked the reel over very closely and I really can’t see any room for improvement machining-wise. I haven’t taken the reel apart, but the internal workings feel like they are made from very high-quality parts/materials. This fly reel is incredibly smooth. And the drag is super smooth, too. I think you would have to be insanely picky to find any faults with this reel. Especially given its modest price compared to the high-end (overpriced) brands. I honestly don’t think you’ll find better fishing gear for the price. In fact, I don’t think you’ll find better fishing gear for twice the price.
