I wanted to try fishing for Coho from the beach, and needed something larger than my other reels. This was on sale for half off so I decided to give it a try. For the price I got it at, I am happy with it. Had I paid full price, I don't think I would have been as happy. It's a great reel, but for some reason just feels bulky to me. That said, it worked great for what I needed and I also used it to chase steelhead this winter. Ended up getting a second one from a certain online auction so that I could have one both floating line for bass this summer, and one with the intermediate sinking line. ... show more

When I first saw this reel I thought it seemed pretty simple for such an expensive reel. It didn't take long to realize just how finely crafted this reel is. The machining is so refined and the tolerances are tight - it is just a very nicely made reel. One nice thing about the reel is the removable (meaning interchangeable) spool. Unlike some reels, the knob that attaches the spool to the reel does not come loose - it's part of the spool assembly. Having lost a knob midstream while trying to switch from a floating line to a sink-tip line, this is a great feature! It is really lightweight, and I like the added color scheme with the extra copper color. It just looks nice. The reel also comes with a nice neoprene pouch to protect it from any damage in transit. A word of caution. If you intend to switch over from right-hand retrieve to left, take a look at the short video instructions on the Moonshine website. The video made it a lot clearer how to do it than the paper instructions included with the reel. The paper instructions don't mention the little part and screw that fell out and took me ten minutes to figure out what they were and how to replace them. The video shows you how. One thing to be aware of, the Amazon page mentions a lifetime warranty. Actually, the reel is warrantied for one year, after which you can have it repaired or replace for a $65 fee (current price). In the long run that may work out better, but it pays to know this up front. I'm impressed with the quality of this reel, and I plan on taking a look at a matching Moonshine Rod to go along with this reel in the near future. ... show more

I’d been looking at this reel on Moonshines Website and was surprised to find it on Amazon. Ordered it and received 2 days later. Right out of the box I was impressed by the feel and quality of this reel. Took it to my local fly shop to get backing and line put on it and the shop said it was the first one they had seen but were impressed by the price and quality as well. Have fished several times with it and am very satisfied with this purchase. You never know when you buy sight unseen but it all work out well this time. ... show more
