I just started fly fishing and purchased this rod on Prime Day. I don't know what it feels like to cast with a $1000 rod, but I don't have any complaints about this one. The 4 piece design breaks down nice and small for traveling with it (I like to hike back a ways before fishing) and the case was great. The flies (I think they are butterfly patterns) and fly box that come with it are kinda crappy, but I wasn't expecting much. The rod and reel are great though. ... show more

the rod, reel and case looks good-limber rod-it all looks good. the backing went on fine. Here's some of the problems: First, there is no loop on the fly line-thought they all had one-but not here. No Problem, just used a nail knot-but should have had a loop. the biggest issue took me a half hour to resolve: the fly line was not on a plastic reel-I see no way to get it off except getting a snarled up mess that takes quite a while to get untangled. Why would anyone not spend a few pennies more and put it on a reel-like they did with the backing. ... show more

I ordered 2 fly rod and reel combos. One set did not have reel. I reached out to the seller representative, Alisa. The level of customer service far exceeded "stellar". She was quick to reply and resolve. I am amazed with the performance of the product and customer service. The kits are rod to reel matched and are well thought out to include all the necessary items you need go straight to fishing. The carrying case is an added bonus to have all the gear together and ready to go. You never know when there may be an opportunity to get the line in the water. This is a great fly rod kit for beginners. I haven't got to use it much but I have used it and it seems to be pretty decent made with a nice assortment of flies to get started with. For the price you can't go wrong.
