But when you put it into a row of several dozen other books, it blends right in. And that right there is the best theft deterrent of all: subterfuge. You can choose either a lock with a key or a combination lock for this clever invention. Take a look at the video and you’ll see that the product arrives with a combination of 000, but it’s a simple matter to change that password to whatever you desire. So if you live in an apartment where your roommates have no interest in dictionaries, or if you have a lot of books, this amounts to a perfect hiding place. I know this is not a new idea, but I like it even more in this value-priced edition. I only hope burglars don’t figure out this is where the valuables are, because it seems like it would be easy to stomp this plastic box open. But first, they have to pick this book out of all the others. Good luck with that, bad guys.

This is a decent book safe. It's not really a safe, more of a novelty. 2 Keys are included with this safe. It's made of plastic so it's not exactly high security. The lock is a very basic wafer lock so it could also be bypassed easily. It does look discreet and will blend on a shelf. It looks to have minor wear and doesn't stand out like some book safes out there to draw attention. If all you want is another hiding spot, then this may be for you. It's got a relatively large volume for storing small items, but I would not put anything of any real value inside, given the insecurities. If you want a basic piggy bank or a cool spot for kids to store their money, it would do a good job of that. As far as book safes go, there are better alternatives out there that can be made of metal or have a higher security lock. For $20, I'd say you can do better, but it's not necessarily a bad purchase. It all depends on what purpose you want it to serve. TLDR: Good for novelty, bad for actual security.
