Live in a rural area and needed to use cell service for a wifi across two buildings. Tried a Hotspot and it just didn't cut it. Picking up signal was spotty and the wifi wasn't strong enough. Ordered the mofi to see if it would fix the problem. Set up was simple. I took the card out of my Verizon hot spot and put it in the mofi. Turned it on and it worked without even running setup. Did go through set up to set security. I added a yagi antenna mounted to the top of one of the buildings and took the time to point it and confirm the cell signal. I went from one bar with the hot spot to 4 bars with the mofi and the yagi antenna. Wifi is strong and services both building perfect. If you order this and the yagi antenna that comes up as a suggested product there are no issues with attaching the external antenna or setting this up. Its been running for about 2 weeks now with no issues at all with constant great cell connection and constant wifi. I did go directly through Verizon for the service and the card. There is a 30 gb limit before they throttle. But thats no different than Hughes net and the speeds are a LOT faster. ... show more

This review is two years over due. We live in an RV full time and there are very few choices on how to get internet and work on the road. It was a little hard to get the router to work in the begging but with help of a neighbor we got all fixed up. Yesterday the router stopped working with the Internet, I lost the signal and went online to the their website and sent an email to MOFI... with in 20 minutes I had a reply and a phone number to tech support. My router is up in running this morning. Had to do a hard reboot. I was so worried that I may have to buy a new MOFI router or go to Star Link and pay $599.00 and then $135.00 a month. This ROUTER is the best even works under trees. Now if there is no cell tower around like in Prospect OR.... This router does not work. We also use the directional antenna to boost the signal strength. We have been all over the USA... and this router works in motion as well as we are traveling down the road of life. These people that write bad reviews are either not calling the help desk or not put in the data that makes the router work. They have a help desk. ... show more

    • Great Replacement for a Jetpack

We have a seasonal RV slot at a local campground but the wifi they provide is very costly. We have a Weboost booster with an antenna on the roof and a panel antenna inside the RV that improves our signal pretty well. For the last several years, we've been using a Verizon Jetpack to provide service to wifi devices inside the trailer. It had limited range and would need frequent reboots. I did a lot of research on 4G routers and decided on the MOFI. It has been awesome - the speed from wifi devices over 4G has been much better than the Jetpack and it's much more stable with connectivity. Being a technical person, I especially like the interface on this and being able to get a lot of information about quality of connectivity and tweaking configuration. We're in NJ, and this works with all of the bands used in our area towers - so far it's locked onto channels 3, 5, 13 and 66. It's worked well and we've had no issues with it. You can also program it to reboot periodically, which seems like something necessary on 4G service in our area sometimes. It likely has to do with the tough signal strength in our particular area. ... show more

I want to start by saying this is a solid, well-built router. Signal strength is excellent, the hardware feels premium, and once it's configured it runs rock solid. I replaced my home ISP with AT&T 5G using this router and it performed great. My only issue — and the reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 — is the documentation around the dual SIM feature is misleading. I purchased this router specifically because I needed both SIM cards to work at the same time. The product listing implies dual SIM capability, but what it actually means is dual SIM *failover* — only one SIM is active at a time, and the second kicks in only if the first fails. If you want true simultaneous dual SIM operation, you need the DUAL model (MOFI6500-5GXeLTE-RM520-HP-DUAL), which has two separate cellular modules. I had to upgrade to that model to get what I originally wanted. Bottom line: Don't let that one point of confusion scare you off — this is a genuinely great 5G router for home or business use. Just make sure you buy the right model for your needs. MoFi should make this distinction much clearer in their product descriptions. ... show more

I'm in Fort Worth, Texas, using AT&T & I had this router up & running in two minutes. This is my second MOFI, but I only had to run the standard setup wizard & it connected - no muss, no fuss. There ARE differences in the various models (SIM4 Vs. SIM7) - I have one of each (4 & 7). Read the MOFI web site for more details - click on the Details tab on the router page for more info. The SIM4 supports carrier aggregation (channel bonding for higher throughput), but that advantage is negated if you lock onto a specific channel. If you're a beginner, don't fret, this router rocks "out of the box" with zero fiddling. It has features you might need later that other (emasculated carrier provided) access points won't ever offer. If you're an expert, this router is your go-to LTE / WiFi swiss army knife - it's packed with features, is totally upgradable & updatable, & it's a fully functioning linux machine with all of the goodies. ... show more

    • Good cheap 4G/LTE Cellular Modem but Tech Support Sucks!

I’ve been using these modems for many years. They are a great 4G/LTE cellular modem that will work on just about any cellular network. The only problem I’ve noticed over the years is if you want to cut down on buffering of videos, you’ll have to use a third party WiFi access point to have the best experience with this product. I’ve had issues with buffering while customers watch Netflix, etc with the default WiFi antennas. After installing an access point like the Ubiquiti access points, this seem to fix the buffering issues. The one BIG problem I have with this vendor is if you have a performance issue, and contact them, they will respond to you but will make it sound like it’s user error and cut you off on the communication if it appears that they may have to exchange it for replacement. For this, I have given them 1 star and I have the emails still to back up this claim from the vendor. Very disappointed in the way they handled my issue and as a result, I have started purchasing PepWave modems from Amazon. ... show more

We live in a RV and like to play PS4 games. This router will NOT work with PS4 as it sets your NAT type to NAT 3 strict. I contacted the support department and was informed after waiting 3 days for a response that I needed a public IP address of which they would provide for $14.99 a month or $149.99 per year. They told me they would give me a 7 day free trial. I requested the free trial and have now been waiting for 4 days for my free trial to be sent. All in all if you just want to use it for web browsing on a PC it's ok, don't try to stream videos though, it buffers alot due to low upload / download speeds. The highest download speed we have ever reached was 8mbps and the highest upload speed was 983kbps, and that was around 5am, it drops significantly after around 7 am , after 5pm, don't even bother to try to stay connected to the internet to stream a movie, it wont happen. we have 100% signal strength. DO NOT RECCOMEND FOR PS4 GAMING AT ALL!!! ... show more

Absolutely amazing product! Highly recommend if you live in a rural area and struggle to find a worthwhile internet solution like myself. After seeing out my 2 year contract with a satellite provider I was desperate and took a chance on this router. With the advice of Mofi support and the addition of a great mesh router, my home is now fully connected on all three floors and capable of all the streaming I can throw at it. I’m at 30 meg plus download speed anywhere in my 5000ft home, at any time of day, on any device. This is only the second time I’ve ever reviewed a product period. That’s how satisfied I am with the Mofi solution. So if you cannot get a hardwire connection to your home, this is definitely your ticket. Also recommend to reach out to the folks at Mofi via email through Amazon for their recommendations. I haphazardly ordered in desperation; but the Mofi folks reached out to me and guided me in the right direction. I also added an external Yagi style antenna they recommended which was a big help too.
