I was looking for a replacement insert and this was perfect. The unit slid right in and because it's so thin, there's plenty of room in the back for air to circulate. I am surprised at how quiet it is. You hear the blower, which is to be expected, but it's similar to white noise. I don't have to increase the volume of my tv. It has a thermostat that clicks on/off based on the temp set. The remote is nice when I want to take the chill off before I get out of bed. I hope this little unit lasts a good while. ... show more

Our old unit died after years of use. This one was attractive to us for several reasons: It is a good price for what you are getting. It was very close to the size of our old unit. I had to make some minor modifications to the wooden mantle to get this to fit, but that is to be expected. We bought this unit to heat the TV room only. It is not meant to heat a whole house, nor is it meant to run all day every day. It is perfect for a couple of hours to take the chill off. It has very realistic flames. I was most concerned about damage in transit due to the glass screen, but that was a non-issue due to good packaging. I would recommend this item to anyone looking for a supplemental heat source. As a general rule of caution, never ever leave these types of heater units running unattended. If you leave the room for any reason or go to bed, shut it off. ... show more
