I like to read reviews and filter analysis across several web pages. In comparisons Mobil1 synthetic media extended drain filters consistently ranked among the best. In the case of extended drain intervals specified with newer vehicles, the Mobil1 extended drain filters outperformed not only in size (smallest particles trapped in microns), overall ability to trap particles and contaminants and hold them from being circulated through the engine. They also ranked among the best or next to it in terms of how much matter it filtered out, over 99.XX percent across the several filters in the Mobil1 range. Some outperformed it (barely) in one test, only to have the Mobil1 filter perform the best in other areas. Due to the, I came to the conclusion that the Mobil1 extended performance filter would suit my intended application. I have been using one variant or other of the Mobil1 filter and now the extended drain interval filter for several years now, and am happy with their performance. The other crucial bit in changing oil is the quality of oil. I hesitate to use Castrol and Mobil1 oil. I prefer using true synthetics from synthetic base stocks and group 3 and 4 base stock oils such as MPT, Redline, Amsoil, Motul and LiquiMoly. They have what it takes for the abuse of city driving, extended drain intervals, forced induction such as turbo and supercharging and other oil stressors. Any of those oils coupled with this filter will give your engines the best protection available for a long life.     • The oil filter matters more than the oil, generally, so get a good quality filter.
If you're just driving the average vehicle around, Synthetic oil is synthetic oil. BUT those oil change places tend to use crappy filters, which ironically is MORE important than the oil. So I do it myself and use this filter because it's much better in quality than what you'll get at an oil change place. ... show more
