  • Awesome Retro Handheld
Style: 2-Grey Size: 3.5-inch
Picked this up because my son is growing up and I remembered how much fun I had with our OG GameBoy. I liked that this one came with a case along with the other assorted accessories like SD card, SD card reader, charging cable. Taking this out of the box, it looks and feels great. The layout is just like the original GameBoy but smaller (and with triggers on the back for supporting console/later handhelds). It feels very solid, it's small but has a screen the same size as the original GB (note also, this is the Mini Plus, which is larger than the Mini). I went with the original GB color scheme, though the purple GB Color look was also appealing as I had one of those later on. The coloring isn't an exact match, this is a significantly darker grey, but it actually reminded me of how ours looks now, the plastic discolored by age and use, so it's not an issue. One thing I discovered is just how much customization is available for the Mini Plus, you can find tons of fan created buttons and triggers, upgraded speakers, new screens, all sorts of things if you're passionate enough. Personally, I'm good with it as is (for now) the only modifications I made were to upgrade the SD card (which is generally recommended by every forum I found) and installed a popular third party OS on it, along with a more curated selection of games. The process wasn't too bad, there are lots of guides that walk you through it, but it's worth putting the time into it to get the best experience. In regards to travel and use, the device is great. Battery life is about 6 hours, and while you can't just change batteries like the old days, it's really more than enough time for most situations. It's very portable, I think I compared it to the GB Pocket and it's about the same size, bit smaller, and if it was good enough for the 90's, it's good enough today! Backlit screen is a great improvement, that didn't even make the GB Color, I had a light attachment that was pretty annoying, so this is a great modern improvement. I've used it on two trips now, and it's excellent to just have quick easy gaming on demand, for the end of the night or in between other plans. When my son gets a bit older and is capable of holding something without hurling it across the room, I expect I'll give it to him as his own, like my dad did. It's just a perfect connection I can share and provide him with a chance to have a similar experience as I did growing up. Overall, 100% recommend getting this, between it's classic style and modern upgrades, you can replay your old favorites while seeing/feeling the nostalgia in your hands. ... show more

  • Wonderful little thing
Style: 1-Black Size: 3.5-inch
Awesome little device for playing anything up to Playstation 1 games. No input lag, screen tears, or hardware issues. The buttons feel great to the touch and the screen is better than I expected. The single speaker does the job. I was afraid the miyoo mini plus would be too small for my large hands, but I can comfortably play certain games for extended periods of time. I'm sure that my hands would begin to hurt after 30 minutes playing something like tekken 3 though It comes ready to play out of the box. However the micro sd card it comes with is very poor quality. I recommend a better micro sd card from sandisk or samsung and copy the game files over. The stock operating system and game library the miyoo comes with is okay. Some games are unplayable or duplicates, but its good overall. This is completely optional, but I'd recommend installing a new operating system like Onion OS and finding add your own rom files. It's not a difficult process and there are lots of walkthroughs you can read or watch online to help. There are tons of devices like this, however if you want a strong community support with custom software and hardware, you can't go wrong with the miyoo mini plus. I ordered this device in late August 2023 and it came with the latest firmware installed (version 202306282128) which made the process of booting up and installing the latest release of Onion OS very easy. ... show more

  • Truly portable handheld in today's market of large handhelds
Style: 2-Grey Size: 3.5-inch
Miyoo Mini Plus is a device that was released on the success of its older yet smaller brother the Miyoo Mini. Which at the time of its release knocked the emulation handheld market around for a few rounds. It was smaller( How small roughly? well the Miyoo Mini Plus is about the same width as a Samsung Note 20 but at 60% of the length and slightly thick due to the battery while the original mini was smaller in all regards from what I could tell.) and yet it didn't feel cheaply made for the relatively inexpensive per quality and function. Due to some manufacturing issues as well as sourcing troubles from finding a consistent smaller than 3-inch IPS panels they upgraded to the newer slightly larger It was not an end-all handheld for emulation with an older and weaker cpu with less than 500mb of ram installed in this tiny handheld. This device was meant for 8-bit, 16-bit, and at most 32-bit games and safely could play up to PlayStation 1 titles with limited stuttering and graphical errors. Also, availability with the Plus model has been much more consistent as of writing this review. If you do not need the prime shipping there is cheaper places to purchase the Mini Plus and there is also solid and fair competition between this and the Anbernic RG3xx which was a handheld that has close to the same performance( The RG3xx has more CPU cores and a bit more memory, but for the emulation and retro games your playing it is basically equal device). The market is flush with these devices for all types of prices and upgrades every so many months and it may be overwhelming deciding on a devise. I will say that if you need a portable and small device to use for your retro games( Nintendo Gameboy Advance works and looks exceptionally well on this handheld) then this is a very solid and capable little guy. If you prefer my horizontal and slightly ergonomic resolution that can handle the games that the Mini Plus and Anbernic RG3xx can play then there are very good devices on the market for that such as Powkiddy RK2023( I normally do not care so much for this brand from a build standpoint but his device is great for a different size and layout for under 100$. Still, though the Mini Plus is something I use even when I am in my room where my pc is (which has emulators and also my steam deck which also has emulation on it.) Yet I still find myself sitting back and playing Pokemon Ruby/Emerald, Zelda, or one of the earlier final fantasies far too often. That should let one know how much I enjoy the device. ... show more
