  • Small Footprint + Great Value = Buy It Small Footprint + Great Value = Buy It
I am happy with my purchase, but let me address other reviews that almost made me not buy this k-cup brewer: 1) "Hard to fill up." This has nothing to do with this k-cup brewer. Try using your coffee mug as a precision water pouring device and you will be sorely disappointed. YES, water DOES go everywhere if you try and aim water out of a coffee mug. The reason is there is not a pouring lip on a coffee mug. Duh. Solution: we keep a Pyrex measuring cup next to the coffee mugs and PROBLEM SOLVED. Fills with water quickly and easily, with no spills. 2) Next, I feel like a lot of reviewers were disappointed with the amount of the coffee output. Ten ounces, the amount it brews, is slightly less than a soda can (12 ounces). Pour that amount of liquid in your coffee cup before you order your machine and see if that'll be enough coffee for you. I included a photo of a full brew in my mug so you can see. It was fine for us, but I can imagine many Starbucks grande and venti drinkers that would be disappointed. FYI--a Starbucks 'tall' (SMALL) is 12 OUNCES. 3) Bad taste. YES, ours smelled/tasted metallic straight out of the box. After reading all the reviews, when I received my brewer I ran 6 cycles of water through and then brewed the first k-cup. The coffee was bitter and undrinkable. I then read the instructions for "descaling" in the booklet. (Fill with white vinegar and hit start so that it starts brewing, but without a k-cup. When it starts to brew shut OFF the machine and let it sit for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, hit start again so the vinegar is pumped out of the machine. THEN run water through (still no k-cup) for 6-10 times. I did it until I didn't smell any vinegar). Worked like a charm. Coffee tastes great. If this helped you, please click the "Helpful" button. Thanks! :) ... show more

  • Surprisingly good inexpensive K-cup brewer - great 'satellite' for a big espresso machine
My primary coffeemaker is a $1000+ fully-automatic Jura-Capresso espresso machine, which just makes the absolute best espresso coffees from fresh-ground whole beans and high-pressure steam. So why would I want a super-inexpensive K-cup machine like this? Several reasons. Topmost is variety: as awesome as the Jura-Capresso is, it's only really good for one kind of bean at a time, because you can't really swap out whatever beans you have loaded in the bin. Sure you could grind beans separately and manually load the grounds into the top chute, but for just an occasional decaf or flavored coffee, it's hard to beat the convenience and varity of K-cups. Plus, you can even get non-coffee drinks like teas and apple ciders in K-cups now. Another reason to like this unit is speed. While a full-auto espresso machine takes a lot of the work out of making a latte, you still need to froth the milk, then make a couple of espresso shots. With this little beauty you just fill the tank, pop in a pod, press the button, and wait a couple minutes. After you press that button, you can be doing something else, unlike with the espresso machine where you have to stand there and tend to it. Another reason is guests. They want coffee, but may not want to learn how to operate the espresso machine. But everybody knows how to make a K-cup! Doesn't get much simpler. The espresso machine is still my primary source of coffee, but it's pretty big - bigger than a car battery. So this unit is a perfect little satellite coffee machine that gives me a K-cup option without taking up nearly any countertop real estate. Yeah, I've got a few gripes. This thing is geared to make 12 oz of coffee into a 12 oz mug and that's about it (OK, so just make two cups of coffee then). Also, the temperature is just barely high enough for a good coffee and it could be hotter. But you know what? It's a lot easier to accept these kinds of limitations when you didn't even spend $40 on your 'satellite' coffeemaker! One final piece of advice I haven't seen anyone else mention: If you don't want the heating element to build up with mineral deposits and require occasional de-scaling, do the same thing I do with my espresso machine and use only distilled water. All the flavor comes from your coffee grind anyway, but distilled water is so pure it leaves no scale. ... show more

  • Not a great brewer
Color: Black B
So, there are three PROs for this brewer: 1) It makes your coffee FAST. 2) It's relatively easy to clean. 3) It's very easy to use. Now for the CONs: 1) Coffee isn't the hottest - after 10 minutes in a well-insulated mug it's already cooled down significantly. I drink my coffee over a 30-minute period, and I usually have to heat it up twice. 2) Coffee doesn't taste good. It's weak, and there are usually some grounds at the bottom of my cup. I think it brews it TOO fast, so the grounds aren't given enough time to steep. I'm using the same batch of K-cups from my last brewer (that died), so it's not the cups themselves. 3) Product is cheaply made. The plastic on this brewer is definitely of a much inferior quality to my last brewer (Sboly single-cup brewer, about $15 more than this one). It's thinner, and just doesn't feel like a quality product. It weighs *nothing*, like I can dangle it off of my index finger easier than one of my coffee mugs. 4) Not much room for a good-sized mug. I can't use any of my larger mugs in this - the largest that fits is a 12-oz. The platform the mug sits on is really high and the cup vessel is really low, so you've got only 5" for your mug. I usually brew 11 oz. and add creamer, so this is an issue. I brew it in my 12-oz mug, then have to pour it in another to add creamer so it doesn't overflow the mug when I tip it to drink. 5) They give you a rubber drip tray that sits on top of the platform but it's useless. It's pretty thick for starters, so I can't use it with the mug (because the mug won't fit) and it hardly holds any spill over (my last brewer held up to 6 oz) because it's pretty much solid with a few grooves. 6) It sounds like it's going to take off from my kitchen counter. It's pretty...forceful. And I think that's part of the reason I'm getting grounds in my coffee: it's trying to blast through so quickly to get you the coffee fast that it's just not brewing correctly and taking grounds along for the ride. Overall, I'm sorry I bought it as it was a waste of my money. It works, but not well. I've got coffee, but I don't enjoy drinking it. While it fits on my limited counter space, it doesn't fit most of my mugs. :( ... show more

  • Great coffeemaker and compact too!
Color: Black B
Second Update: who has time to update a review twice? Well I am just relaxing with a cup of coffee made in this brewer which is still working great after almost 3 years of daily use. I am thinking of ordering another one to keep as a spare in case the first one dies but it's still working like new. I am very pleased with this little machine. So compact and easy to use. Update: Used this coffeemaker every day for almost a year now. It's compact so we brought it on vacation also. Still EXTREMELY pleased with it. Works perfectly, never malfunctions and brews a great hot cup of coffee. We use Peet's Major Dickason blend with about 9oz. of water - excellent dark strong euro flavor. Bought this coffeemaker so my wife could make a single cup of coffee in the afternoons or evenings without having to make a larger pot with our regular coffeemaker. Wanted something compact to hide in kitchen cabinet or at least not take up much space on counter top. It does a great job, and she can pick from dozens of types and flavors. Works with any brand Kcup I think (she has used 3 different brands so far). It makes great tasting coffee, quite hot, and you can use any size cup or mug you want. A typical coffee mug holds about 10-12 ounces and is perfect size for this machine. You could easily fit a larger mug up to about 16 ounces. You simply pour a mugful of water into the top of the machine, drop in a Kcup, close the lid, place the mug in the machine and press the start button. The water heats up, the machine pumps it through the Kcup and into your mug, then shuts itself completely off. Total time about 3 minutes. So far very pleased. Hope it keeps working for years. ... show more

  • Works great, takes up little counter space
This coffee maker is very easy to use and is amazingly small for a device that works so well. After removing from the box and placing it on my counter I ran four or five cycles of a vinegar/water mix through the unit to ensure it was cleaned of any manufacturing oils etc. After that I ran a few pure water cycles to remove any vinegar that might have remained and then inserted a coffee pod and made my first cup of coffee. It tasted wonderful and was everything I was hoping for. This coffee maker does not have a chamber for holding water so you must add water every time you use it to make a cup of coffee. This is quite easy to do as you simply lift the lid and pour the water in the top, place a cup or mug under the spout and press start. The instructions make it clear to only add 10 ounces of water but there is no need to measure as 10 ounces of water is all it will hold. So I simply fill the coffee maker to the top of the filter and its ready to go. Not having a tank to store water is a GOOD THING. I am ashamed to admit but recently when my K-Cup type of coffee maker stopped working and being a tinkerer I thought I'd open it up to see what ticks. To my surprise the water chamber was full of the most UNPLEASANT SLIME I have ever seen and I am amazed that it hadn't made me sick. From this experience I am sold on single use coffee makers such as this Mixpresso. In the past with all types of coffee makers I would run a couple of the vinegar/water cycles to ensure nothing bad is accumulating inside the coffee maker. But that hadn't worked with my K-Cup unit. With the Mixpresso not having a water chamber I have the assurance that the inside of the unit is staying clean and safe. The coffee will probably taste better as well. One last thing, as ten ounces of coffee does not seem like a lot, after making the first ten ounces of coffee I add about half that amount and run another cycle. This just about fills my coffee mug to the brim and I find the flavor excellent. I would definitely purchase this coffee maker again and most certainly would recommend it to a friend. And yes, I am loving my new-found counter space! ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
I bought this for a cheap coffee maker for my desk. My previous just under a hundred died a inglorious death the second time I used it. Not sure why it decided to go nuke and turn on the heating element with nothing in it but hey, who am I to question the motives of a coffee maker. This machine had the right price point, cheap, was well rated, and did I mention cheap? The first time I used this I neglected to push the pod down so it didn't properly puncture. Was treated to a nice hot grainy cup of Joe with a mess to clean up. I learn quick, next couple of times I seated the pod and heard a noticeable click. Yes! It punctured. Just like my tires once a year cause LA freeways. I read this cool little cheap machine can take the coffee grounds insert basket thingy. Awesome! Until it wasn't. First time using the insert was magical. I heard stars saw sirens and all was well with the world. The second time. Not so much. Maybe I got to excited to motivated to full of LUST for my caffeine fix. And I over floweth my basket with the exilur of life, coffee. Cause the top of the machine popped and it kept spitting out water. Drat. Coffee came out good, no extra grounds in the cup but gosh darn and golly gee did I have another mess. You really do get what you pay for. I wouldn't buy this again, or any other coffee maker for my desk, when this one gives up the ghost. It does what it says for the most part. I wouldn't say I am displeased with this item I purchased maybe disappointed is a better description. ... show more

  • Works great!
Color: White B
Works great out of the box. Coffee tastes fine. It has lasted over 2 months, which is longer now than the crummy new Keurig single cup coffee maker I bought before I got this Mixpresso as a replacement. It's also more compact and takes less counter space than the Keurig.
