Initially, I only used this soil. I had issues with the water pooling at the top and taking a long time to be absorbed. I added perlite, and the problem was solved. Water doesn’t just sit at the top anymore. If you buy this soil, I suggest adding perlite or something similar. I would not only use this soil alone. My succulents are looking good now, so I think they are liking this soil mixed with the perlite. ... show more

I do like this soil, but as a few have said, you really should add Perlite. Otherwise the water is not absorbed well. It is also a bit pricey at over roughly $3 per quart.

I am absolutely delighted with the results this potting mix achieved for my Thanksgiving cactus trimmings. One of the standout features of this potting mix is its excellent drainage capability. Unlike other potting mixes I have tried in the past, this one allows water to flow through the soil efficiently, preventing excess moisture and potential root rot. It strikes the perfect balance, providing adequate hydration to my trimmings to ensure new root growth. As with most succulents, I simply put the trimmings straight into the soil and hoped they would take root, which they did.     • Works wonders, but gnats love it!

My plants grew after replanting them in this. But gnats were terrible. Not sure if they came in or got in afterwards. It would be good to have some of those gnat sticky traps in your plants.
