The ad says that it has a variable zoom from 60x to 120x. I have no way of testing to see if that’s true but it did show the items in very fine detail. For example Lincoln’s nose on the penny took up about a third of the viewer. The build quality is okay. The base separates from the scope but they are not firmly attached to each other. It’s rather small for an adult, but would be easier for an eight-year old to handle. The slides aren’t really that great to look at but looking at flat items on a table would be more interesting. A random check of scopes that look identical to this one ranged from $7 to $19, on Amazon, so this one was on the lower end of the price scale. The object to viewed should be small and flat, like a postage stamp or a fly's wing, and set on a stable platform, like a table. To attempt to focus on a large free-standing rounded object would be almost impossible because the focal point is about 10 cm from the lens. ... show more
