This is a nice compact addition to our camping supplies. It's not large or sharp enough to split down the middle of a cut log...at least I haven't been able to yet. But it does great at chipping off the edges and making nice kindling bits. Made of heavy metal, this thing is going to last us a while!

Even though the blade is pretty blunt, when a piece of cord wood it hammered onto it, it safely and accurately splits where you intend to make the cut — even though you’re holding the piece while striking it. Unlike where and how an axe might randomly, and sometimes unsafely, strike the wood. The wedge is not large enough to handle a whole round, and the wedge falls away with the splits, and needs to be positioned each time.

This little thing really helped me save some time and energy. It’s a great price and value and super functional. It has a nice glossy black finish and comes with a little blade proctor and case to keep things safe and organized. I used a regular hammer and some pretty dry firewood (apx 4-6 inches wide) and easily split pieces into smaller kindling. Definitely recommend for camping and also very useful to have at home if you do any kind of burning with wood. It helped me get a great fire going in no time at all.

I was surprised by this little wedge. Mostly due to the fact that the edge was so broad and slightly blunt but it split wood. Great for smaller pieces where you might not feel as safe splitting for kindling. Make sure you're using nice dry firewood. I also tried on some wetter stuff and was getting nowhere.

Just place it on a hard, flat surface (like a stump or a splitting log) and then begin making lots of kindling the safe way. Just set the wood you’d like to split into kindling on top of the mini splitting edge, and then use another piece of word to tap the first piece down onto the splitting wedge. With this little tool you’ll never risk losing a finger to your hatchet or axe every time you try to split down some kindling.

Nifty little splitting wedge, that You can carry easily went backpacking. It’s not real big or heavy, but definitely enough to get the job done if you need to split some wood for a campfire and don’t want to have to carry something large or heavy with you.
