  • Very Good.
The real test will be the test of time, but it has made quick work out of the stone drilling I've had to do so far.

  • Hammer drill good: Hammer only feature - not as good
I used this Milwaukee 5426-21 1-3/4-Inch SDS-Max Rotary Hammer for the first time this week. Goal: To drive duckbill anchors three feet into the ground to anchor a communications shelter on a mountain top in interior Alaska in the Alaska Range (the same range where Denali, the highest peak in North America is located). The bit I used was about 4 feet long and 7/8" in diameter, designed for drilling into concrete and rock. I drilled a hole through frozen ground and rock , and I needed only to lean my weight into the drill to make the hole. This was a much better experience than driving a pilot hole in the ground with a tanker bar and a sledge hammer. Much less effort needed to do this task. Once the hole was drilled, I inserted the anchor into the top of the hole and used the hammer only setting to drive it in. I got it in about 2 1/2 feet but it was very slow going. For my purposes, I think a tamping rod (designed to drive duckbill anchors into the ground) and a sledge hammer would have been more effective in doing the last part of this task. Unfortunately, I decided to leave those tools behind to minimize the weight on the Bell 206L-4 helicopter that I was in. So, I used what I had, and I was successful. Note that I used two Honda EU2200i generators in parallel to run this drill, as it draws 14 amps. My cohorts over at the National Park Service (I work in US Fish and Wildlife Service as a tech) indicated they could get the drill going with one 2000 watt model, but only barely. Startup for this drill motor takes a bit more to get it going. Admittedly I have not used a drill like this before, but for me it worked well. I would recommend this purchase and just bring along a sledge to do the last part. 4 stars. ... show more

  • Milwaukee rules. This hammer drill exceeded my expectations.
I manage a large property with lots of boulders. My goal was to drill approximately 1" or so holes for fastening, etc. I had a smaller Hilti which was not up to the task, and the larger models were too expensive. So, I took a my favorite vendor Milwaukee which came in at about half the price. Today I just drilled two 1 1/8" x 9" deep holes in solid granite with no problem. This hammer drill is a workhorse. And it is safe. If you bind up, it clutches out and turns off the motor. I would highly recommend this drill. ... show more

  • Junk
Lasted 5 months and grease in tool that is lifetime sealed leaked out, end came off. Piece of junk for $500 Had one for 13 years and had no problem. Bought this one and it lasted 5 months. No one wants to warranty it.

  • Heavy to handle.
Okay to use at waist to knee level, above your head expect to require support. The clutch does not slip and will crank your arm around if it catches on rebar. I have used hammer drills before and this is not the easiest I've used. Will see how durable it will be, in the long run, and going to see if the clutch can be adjusted; this will turn a would be "pig" into a partially comfortable tool. ... show more

  • At 27 lbs you'll feel the "Bern"
Good entry level demo hammer and drill. The drilling aspect is solid. This tool can drill holes, large holes in granite quickly. The demo hammer mode works well for the occasional concrete bust up of small patches. A Good tool most remodel contractors and builders should have. The handle is spring loaded to absorb shock which is nice, but the clutch is designed to engage in an extreme stress situation. My 180lb body still gets thrown around if the bit binds. The clutch never engages in these situations And yes some one designed the case to hold two or three bits. Come on Milwaukee spend the money on some more plastic and give us some more room in these cases. My sawzall the same way. Its tough just trying to get the power cord in and the lid closed before the cord pops out. ... show more
