  • A very handsome–and useful!–rolling pin
I bake frequently, and this rolling pin is a very useful addition to my baking tools. It did take me a little getting used to, because my other rolling pin has handles, but I figured it out quickly and I wish I would have gotten this pin sooner! At $70 it's a splurge, but if you enjoy baking I think you'll find this pin useful and it should hold up for a lifetime. The weight gives a nice heft when rolling out dough. I don't have to expend too much energy doing so. I appreciate the length of the pin. It's considerably longer than my other rolling pin, which is a plus when rolling out long sheets of dough or large pie crusts. I also appreciate the etched in ruler on the pin. It's a small, but nice, detail that saves me a step from having to grab (and clean up post-session) my ruler or tape measure. The fact that it has both metric and imperial measurements are a plus if you follow Asian, European Canadian and American recipes. The height guides are so much less hassle to use compared to the wooden dowels I've used in the past. This, combined with the length of the pin, makes is almost effortless to roll out pie dough in circumferences large enough to fit my big pie plates and springform pans. I only wish there was a 5/16" guide, but this is nitpicking on my part; I often roll my sugar cookie dough to a depth of 5/16". But the included 1/8" and 1/4" are very popular rolling depths so they'll meet the majority of my rolling needs. It's very easy to clean. Time will tell if the wood requires periodic oiling, which I won't mind doing for a rolling pin of this quality. ... show more

  • A beautiful set for rolling
I've seen rolling pins like this for a while, but. hadn't pulled the trigger yet. But when I saw this one I knew I had to order it. Years ago I had an old aluminum rolling pin I found at a used kitchen supplies store in San Francisco (such a great store!). It had a hollow center, so you could unscrew one of the handles and fill the main part with ice water ..... perfect for making pie crusts! But somehow I lost that one in a move, and I still miss it. This pin gives me lots of features to make up for my lost aluminum pin. For starters, the size! You don't have to keep moving this rolling pin to cover a large pie crust or counter full of pasta dough. It's so long that you can just keep rolling back and forth and let the dough do the moving for you. And of course having the option to choose the thickness of your dough by using the interchangeable end pieces is genius. Excellent materials, expert craftsmanship, high quality, and a joy to use. It is a bit longer than a standard rolling pin, so I'll have to find a new place to keep it, along with figuring out how not to lose the extra end pieces. But that's a minor issue. I love this new rolling pin! ... show more

  • Presentation Suitable for Gifting – Consistent Rolling Results – The Best
I have my mother’s, grandmother’s, great grandmother’s, great aunties, and 6 of my own rollers. This, new to me, style is by far the best. I wish that I had ordered the Milk Street Beechwood Adjustable Rolling Pin ages ago. The boxed presentation is suitable for gifting and for storage. The roller itself and the measured end caps are smoothly finished and clearly marked. There is no longer the need to get out a ruler or repeatedly stop to check the width of your pastry against the size of your pan. If by chance you hand roll pasta, the measurements along the roller help with cutting widths for that as well. The ⅛” and ¼” depth of the caps takes all the guess work out of determining thickness and the pressure you use to make your pastry flat and even. This system is so efficient and quick to get from pat-out to properly rolled, that the pastry is worked less and stays cool. You’ll find this helpful for tender, flaky baked pie crust. Rolling out tortillas or pizza crust is quick too. When you don’t have to worry about depth, there are end caps that finish the ends, covering the attachment bolts, to give the pin a full 23” of working space. Rolling out a large sheet is so nice at holiday time when you’re cutting dozens of sugar cookies. If you’ve been struggling to get consistent results when rolling pie dough or cookies, order the Milk Street Adjustable Rolling Pin. You’ll quickly feel confident and will enjoy making pastry again! ... show more

  • Makes rolling the perfect thickness SO much easier
I love this rolling pin. It's so much nicer than having to roll dough out between chopsticks or bamboo skewers in an effort to get your dough to the right thickness. (I cannot tell you how nice it is to not have to pull skewers from the rolled out dough.) And the fact that there's an integrated ruler printed on the roller itself is just so lovely. This is a very well thought out system and it makes the process of rolling out dough just a little nicer and easier. I only wish there was a way to store it easily so it would be easy to keep things together so I wouldn't misplace an end or lose it at the bottom of a drawer somewhere. I don't know what "TK hardwood" is, but this definitely feels well milled and solid. It has a nice weight to it, which means my hands don't have to work as hard. The ends, which allow for the variation in dough thickness, screw on smoothly, and so far, I've not had them want to unscrew as I've rolled. The thickness is marked on the ends of the roller caps. This set comes with 1/4 inch depth, 1/8 inch depth, and flush end caps. The rolling pin body measures 18 inches (or 46 cm) and is marked out every 2 inches (as well as every 2 cm). Cleaning is easy, just warm soapy water. Storage is a little harder as I don't have many drawers that can accommodate an 18 inch roller. It comes packaged in a nice box with each piece individually wrapped in tissue paper. I'm kind of a packaging geek, so the presentation was nice. This would make a really nice gift if you have any bakers in the family. ... show more
