My mom purchased this set first and then I purchased my own set. I wasn't sure if I would like the plain white color, but I do. Since it's a set for 8, it's a larger than I needed but I still wanted them. I just have extras. I didn't want anything heavy. I had previously purchaed a stoneware set and they were way too heavy. I ended up giving them away. These are not heavy and are easy to clean. I haven't used one in the microwave; although it says they microwave and dishwasher safe. The dinner plates are very large, which is great. You can use the salad plates in leu of dinner plates if you're not used to larger plates. I like the round way the bowls are made and there are regular bowls for cereal and smaller bowls for other things like deserts. When I first got them, I didn't want to use them for everyday but that changed. I got rid of everything else I had in my cabinet to make room for all of the pieces that came in the box, which was very nicely packed. I almost hated to get rid of the box. The coffee cups are a nice size. In the picture, they look small but they're actually not. They're not big mega cups but they're a nice size. And since they're slim and tall, they fit well in my cabinet. I'm careful when I was my dishes and have not chipped any of them. I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

Del Ray dinner ware received promptly and without shipping damage. One dish had visible crack beneath the glaze. I did not want to return the set, even though I knew Amazon would gladly replace it. I couldn’t square with the cost of shipping the set 3 times because of a defective, 8 oz. dish, so I reached out to Mikasa customer service, sent pictures and a copy of the receipt, and they got back to me, promptly, advising that a replacement dish was on its way. VERY IMPRESSED! , and Amazon should be, as well, since they were spared the extra shipping and dealing with a returned, heavy item. By the way, we love the understated elegance of Del Ray design. Bought this set two weeks ago. It’s beautiful. Color and feel is nice. Bowls are the perfect size and shape. Love the set but they do not stand up to the microwave. Pictures show a plate that broke after 1 minute and 20 seconds in the microwave. The plate and the food were all still cold to the touch. I don’t use the microwave much so this was likely the first time this particular dish was in the microwave. I’ve used these dishes in the microwave maybe a total of 3 or 4 times but there are so many, it wasn’t likely the same one. I had another plate making strange noises after only 30 seconds in the microwave. I took it out, unbroken but I have never heard a plate creaking and popping in a microwave to the point the I was so concerned that I had to remove it. I have absolutely no problems with any of my other dishes or glass containers. -EDIT- After another inspection, the plate that was making strange noises does have minor chipping on the face as if tiny pieces the size of a grains of sugar popped off. Also there is a metallic looking stain that has appeared below the surface. For the price, these plates should be reliable in the microwave. Right now I have a giant stack of expensive dishes that I can’t use to heat anything and now I’m concerned about the dishwasher where they actually do get hot. Seller contact and website are apparently down??? So I will try to contact them via phone but I’m not expecting much help. ... show more
