  • Hands down, this one is the best!
Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
I purchased my first one in 2018 and it is still going strong! This AC unit is definitely worth the investment, especially in a city, as you can use the window while it is installed. I have also left it installed year-round since 2018 with zero issues. The unit is whisper quiet, a very important feature for me, as my old one I had to yell over it. The 8000 BTU model has superior cooling performance, it effortlessly cools a large room (13'×15') and even cools outside the room when on full blast. It also has WiFi control capabilites in addition to a manual remote. This is perfect to use their app to raise the temperature when I leave the house and lower it just before I get home so the house isn't muggy when I arrive. Do note that the unit is pretty heavy, and if you have a weird window shape or not a lot of clearance to open the window, the AC sticks into the house about 9 inches and needs a minimum opening to install. We circumvented a small window opening by removing one of the window panes and reinstalling it when the AC was in place. Otherwise, absolutely no complaints, and the cherry on top is the energy efficiency rating! This is why I came back to buy more and I recommend this wholeheartedly to all my friends and family. ... show more

  • Runs quite and cooling down really fast in my house
Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
I recently purchased the Midea MAW08V1QWT U-Shaped AC Window Air Conditioner, and I can confidently say this is one of the best investments I’ve made for my home comfort. This particular unit is the most updated model, and you can really tell that Midea has listened to customer feedback and improved it in several important ways. Setup & Installation: The installation process was surprisingly easy compared to traditional window AC units. The U-shaped design is truly innovative—it allows you to keep your window mostly functional and lets in natural light while still providing a very secure and stable fit. The included installation kit made things much smoother, and I was able to set it up without needing extra tools or outside help. The design also makes it feel safer since the unit locks into place much more firmly than older box-style window ACs. Noise Level: One of the standout features is how quiet this AC runs. I’ve owned several window air conditioners in the past, and most of them were so loud that they made it hard to sleep, watch TV, or even have a conversation nearby. With this updated model, the noise level is impressively low—it’s almost like having central air conditioning. Even on higher fan speeds, the sound is more of a gentle hum than the typical loud buzzing you’d expect. This has made it absolutely perfect for a bedroom or a home office. Cooling Performance: The cooling process is fast and efficient. Within just a few minutes of turning it on, I could already feel the difference in the room temperature. It evenly distributes cool air and maintains a comfortable environment without constantly cycling on and off. I’ve tried it on both humid and very hot days, and it’s been able to keep up perfectly. For medium to large rooms, this AC definitely gets the job done quickly. Draining & Maintenance: Another big plus is that the drainage system works very well. Unlike some older models where you constantly have to worry about water buildup or dripping, this updated design handles condensation efficiently. I haven’t had to deal with any leaks or messy situations so far. The filters are also easy to remove and clean, which makes regular maintenance simple and stress-free. Smart Features & Convenience: This unit comes with remote control and smart home compatibility, which has been really convenient. Being able to adjust the temperature from my phone or with the remote means I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night or while working. The controls are intuitive, and the display is clear and easy to read. Overall Experience: I’m extremely happy with this purchase. To sum it up: Most updated model with noticeable improvements Easy to set up with secure U-shaped design Extremely quiet operation Fast and efficient cooling Draining system works perfectly Low maintenance and easy cleaning If you’re looking for a window AC that combines modern design, quiet operation, and powerful cooling, I highly recommend the Midea U-Shaped AC. It’s well worth the investment, and I honestly wish I had bought it sooner. ... show more

  • Far superior to old style window units, but won't fit EVERY window without some minor mods
Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
I bought the 8,000 BTU model. This thing is super quiet compared to a new Frigidaire regular window unit of equal size. It's as quiet as the mini-split I have in the back of the house. But, it has a small squirrel cage fan like a mini split, and those things are a pain to clean. It comes with updated rubber drain plugs to better drain the water from the rear of the unit. I don't understand why you even need the plugs. All my other window units just have open holes. I bet this unit would work fine if you just left out the rubber drain plugs and left the open holes. If they were worried about bugs getting in, bugs would just come in the side breathing slits in the sides of the outside cabinet. I had to use a small 1"x3/4" strip of wood against the inside window ledge of my old house to use as a spacer to make the window fit in the center of the "U" gap. It's an old house in which I replaced the windows with metal frame dual pane windows. It ended up like a flat ledge window with a metal frame that stuck up about 1" There is no way the Midea engineers could come up with something to blindly fit EVERY window out there. So, I couldn't fault them for that. But, they need to mention that mods may be necessary for some odd applications in older non-standard windows. But, you can tell a lot of engineering went into this unit, and other than the mod I had to make, installation was easy. I also measured from the outside sidearms to try and get the mounting frame centered in the window. Somehow, I managed to get it about 1.5" off-center. No big deal. But, you may want to double-check this before you cut all the foam insulating pieces. Overall, this unit seals and insulates better than any other window unit I've seen. But, there are still few small cracks to fill before your done. Also, the rubber feet that sit against the outside wall can be reversed if you have an inconsistent surface like vinyl siding. This thing blows COLD! Even on high fan speeds, it blows COLD compared to my other window unit. I like the way you can aim the air both up and down and side to side. You can even make the up-down motion oscillate. It comes with a remote. It has a timer, and it's also wifi capable. You can download an app to control it. It's also "Alexa" capable. I'll update this review if I encounter any "surprises." Otherwise, this unit appears to be well worth the money, and far superior to old style window units. ... show more

  • So far it seems to be working as planned and I have solar helping keep power bills down.
Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
I really don't leave 5* reviews, but this is a good one. We installed this in our bedroom in May of 2026, in Alabama. So far we have had very cool temps so it really hasn't been put to the test. We have a 3k sf house with central HVAC but it's just the 2 of us so we really don't need to cool the house from 9 PM until 7 AM, hence the window unit. I bought this for a couple of reasons. It is moderately priced, and the reviews tend to be quite good. It definitely needs 2 people to install, but I could probably have done it myself if I wanted to go all He-Man on it. The installation seems a bit daunting at first but it's really quite straight forward once you see how it works. All in all it probably took me 30 minutes to do the complete install with my wife helping 2 times. Once to lift the unit into the window, and the 2nd time to hold the unit steady while I adjusted the arms. So far, and this is very preliminary, it has been perfect. The compressor allows it to ramp up slowly so you don't get the jarring of a conventional AC. On low cool it is SUPER quiet, about the same noise level as a fan as that is really all you are hearing with the compressor on the outside. The noise does go up a bit as it ramps up to medium and high, but that is fully expected. When temps are 90 degrees at night, I will just hope it stays this quiet. I have it set at 68, and it brings our BR down from 75 in pretty short order. I am running this unit through a 2k "solar generator" and it is pulling between 125 and 500 watts, depending on the settings. It pulls around 300-350 watts when running on low cool, so it would run for about 6 hours if we lost power. As it is, I have the so-gen hooked to grid power with parameters set to charge from the gris if it gets to 20%. I have solar priority with a 1600 watt solar array, so it should be able to keep this AC going most days without pulling any grid power. All in all I am pleased, so far. July and August will tell the true tale but so far so good. ... show more

  • BEWARE OF MOLD!!!
Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
The cooling power is pretty good for the front half of our 550 square foot home. The remote never worked well on this model or the last. But MOLD! The much bigger problem is MOLD. The model we had before this was recalled because the condensation sat inside with no drain hole. Mold grew like crazy. When we got our recall check (which took many months to receive) we ordered their updated model. The “fix” they added on this model was a drain hole, but they sent a plug you are supposed to put in the hole. What??? What was the point in that? It, too, would keep the water inside. So we kept the plug out from the start. There is a lot of water draining. However, there is a tall rim on the inner edge of the drain hole that prevents much of the water from draining out. It is designed that way because the water sloshing around is what keeps the motor cool so they can tell you it has an “Eco” feature. But to what end?? After using it for one month last fall (Sept of 2025) we resumed using it again in April. By May, the air coming out smelled very strongly of mold. I quickly developed a mold cough (I’ve had one before, and I recognized it immediately). I looked around to see if this model, too, had a recall. Not yet, as of June 2026. So I contacted Midea via chat on their website, and I informed them of the issue. I asked if they had an even newer model that completely fixed the mold problem. They assured me that the newest model comes with a drain hole and plug kit. I said that the one we currently had had that kit, and that it fixed nothing. We went round and round in circles. They refused to acknowledge any problem and kept telling me they fixed it. I looked on Amazon, and for the same or very similar model, it was $100 (33%) more expensive than it was just in September. I asked if they would be willing to exchange it straight across for us. No. Could they give me a refund check high enough to order the same a/c off Amazon (essentially exchanging it). No. They refused to help in any way except they could “possibly” give me a refund. They halted all conversation with me at that point except to ask if there was anything else they could help me with. Even though there’s a one year warranty, they still had to send my case over to another department to think about whether or not they would even issue a refund of the original price I paid. That really bothered me. They acted like they were doing me a favor. Weeks and weeks later, I was approved and received a refund check for $310. While waiting for the refund, we had to shell out $400 plus tax for a comparable model. I think they could easily fix the problem. I don’t understand why they choose not to. It’s really putting people’s health at risk, especially medically vulnerable ones like me. Even though we took the old air conditioner out a month ago, I’m still coughing all day and night from the bronchitis it caused me to develop. I’ve been coughing for over two months thus far. So, unless and until this issue is fixed, I wouldn’t recommend that anyone should buy any of their products. ... show more

Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect window air conditioner for months.First , the installation was a breeze—pun intended. The instructions were clear, and the U-shaped design fits snugly in my window without any awkward gaps. I was worried about it being a two-person job, but I managed it all by myself in under an hour. The included mounting kit and foam seals made sure it was secure and airtight, so no cool air escapes and no warm air sneaks in. Now, let’s talk about the noise level—or should I say, the lack thereof. I’ve had traditional window ACs before, and they sounded like a jet engine taking off. This Midea unit? It’s so quiet I forget it’s even on sometimes. The U-shape design really works its magic here, directing the noisy components outside. Whether I’m working from home, watching a movie, or trying to get a good night’s sleep, this AC doesn’t disrupt a thing. It’s like having a silent cooling partner in the room. When it comes to cooling power, the 8,000 BTU is no joke. My medium-sized bedroom goes from stuffy and warm to comfortably cool in just a few minutes. I love that I can adjust the temperature precisely with the remote or even through the smart app. Speaking of the app—smart home integration is a game-changer. I can turn it on while I’m still on my way home, so I walk into a perfectly cooled space. It also integrates with voice assistants, so a simple “Hey, cool down the bedroom” does the trick.Build quality is another standout. The updated model feels sturdy and well-made, not flimsy like some budget options. The control panel is intuitive, with easy-to-use buttons for fan speed, cooling modes, and timer settings. Even the little details, like the sleek white design that blends into my window frame, make it feel like a premium appliance.I also appreciate how energy-efficient it is. Even though it cools quickly, it doesn’t skyrocket my electricity bill. The eco-mode and adjustable fan speeds let me balance comfort and energy use, which is a huge plus for long summer months.Honestly, I can’t recommend this air conditioner enough. It’s quiet, powerful, easy to install, and packed with smart features. If you’re tired of loud, inefficient ACs, the Midea MAW08V1QWT is the upgrade you need. It’s not just an appliance—it’s a summer game-changer. Five stars, hands down! ... show more

  • Little Unit, Big Savings!
Style: 8,000 BTU (Updated)
I’ve had this unit for about 3 full days now. I live in a 600sq.ft park model mobile home in the Coachella Valley. It gets HOT here during the summer. We’re talking upwards of 120 during peak summer. This thing is EXTREMELY efficient compared to my central AC, which is only 2 years old. I put this unit in my bedroom to keep my dogs cool during the day instead of using the central AC to cool the whole house, and I’ve been blown away. Really easy to install, even in a horizontal opening window. Make sure you have at least 22” of width, and you’re good. You’re just going to need to build some sort of false window to go above it. Right now I just have cardboard, kinda rinky dink, but I’ve got a plan to add plexiglass this weekend(will update). It has no issue keeping the bedroom at a cool 77 on Auto mode the entire day. The app is super easy to navigate and shows you the energy consumption in real time. Now I have my central AC set up to 88 during the day, while this thing keeps the bedroom cool, and I’m even able to set it to full blast and use my Dreo fan to blow the air from my bedroom down to the living room once I’m home from work. I also set my central higher at night, and just close my bedroom door. My central AC has gone from running roughly 12 hours a day (43kWh), I know, insane…., to around 4 (14.5kWh), while this unit uses about 3-3.5kWh the entire day. Full blast this unit uses about 780w, which would be about 9.5kWh for 12 hours. I could get a second one of these and run them both full blast for 12 hours and still use less than half of what my central AC would use. Keep in mind you probably wouldn’t need to run it full blast if I don’t even need to. I’m writing this review at 8pm, and to this point today, it’s only used a little over 2kWh. If my math is correct, this unit will pay for itself in about 2 months with my electric bill savings. Well worth the $275 I spent on it during the Prime deals! I’ll update this review in about a month or so to hopefully confirm the savings! Update #1: Got the plexiglass fitted and installed no problem. Used some extra weatherstripping I had and the foam that came with the unit and got a nice seal around the whole thing. Just in case you’re wondering if you can install this in a horizontal sliding window, you can! Just need to get a little creative. ... show more
