Took a gamble on these after getting tired of watching my baseboard heaters eat through the electric bill. Ended up buying two of the Midea Duo 14,000 BTU units—rated for about 550 square feet each with a 12,000 BTU SACC figure 1 5 —to handle my three-bedroom apartment, and honestly they've been a solid upgrade. The heat pump setup pulls air from outside to warm or cool the place 3 7 , which beats the heck out of resistive heating. The efficiency gap compared to my old baseboards is no joke. Install wasn't terrible but wasn't exactly plug-and-play either. Somewhere in that middle zone where you need maybe half an hour and some patience. The unit rolls, sure, but it's one of those things you technically could move around yet realistically want to park in one spot and leave there. That dual-hose rig takes up space 2 , and I wouldn't want to relocate it every weekend. Both units cool and heat faster than I expected for the size of the rooms. The black finish helps it fade into the background instead of screaming "appliance" in the corner. On startup the fan runs pretty aggressive on high, but it settles into a medium or slow hum once the room temp catches up. So far no mechanical issues across three months of regular use, and popping out the filter for cleaning is easy. Winter operation is where things get interesting. Neither unit is rated below 40°F, so I expected some grumbling when it got cold. Both shut down around 27°F ambient, which tracks. But there's a weird variance between my two identical units—one starts struggling at 35°F while the other keeps trucking down to about 29°F. Just a quirk of manufacturing tolerance I guess, and not a dealbreaker since I knew the limits going in. The included hose is kinda short. I grabbed longer ones on Amazon so I could route condensate drainage outside properly, and that made a big difference. Remote control works great minus two things: no backlight on the buttons, and the range is weaker than I'd like. I have to point it pretty directly. Smart home integration is the main headache. Matter syncing stays buggy and disconnects more often than it should 4 6 . Cycling power fixes it, but it's annoying. HomeKit also refuses to acknowledge there's a heating mode, so I end up using the native app for anything beyond basic cooling. Fingers crossed a firmware patch sorts that out eventually. I'm mostly happy with the purchase. These things handle a legitimately large space, sip power compared to what I had before, and the heat pump tech is impressive inside a portable box. Planning to keep both running for years, and if I move somewhere bigger I'll probably grab another. I bought one of these a year ago. I put it in our bedroom, and it cools that bedroom WAY better than my HVAC. I have a mobile home on the coast in SC. We have NO trees for shade. My HVAC struggles to keep the inside temperature under 85 degrees in the Summertime. It just is what it is. While the first one has kept our bedroom at 68 degrees 24/7, the rest of the house has been a miserable 85 degrees until 3 or 4 in the morning. I've already spent over $1,000 on "service and recharging" my HVAC, with "recommendations to replace it" over the past 3 years. Replacement estimates were all over $11,000! I bought another Midea this year and put it in the middle of the house in the living room. What had been 85 degrees by 11:00 AM is now a comfortable 70 to 75 degrees all day and night! I am amazed at how well this unit cools. And, I have NEVER had to empty a condensation bucket (even though I did attach the hose, just in case) because it evaporates and exhausts the moisture as it cools! The past 5 years, my HVAC NEVER stopped from May until November, as it struggled to keep the house cool. My summertime Power Bill has been $380 to $480 per month with just my HVAC as a cooling unit, with an inside temperature of 80+ degrees until 3-4 AM! I just got this new Midea unit a few days ago, so I can't tell you what my Power Bill will be using it in conjunction with the other one. Depending on the outcome, I may post an update to this in another month or two. My Spare Bedroom is at the opposite end of the house from my Master Bedroom. Since I've put the New Midea in the Living Room (middle of the house), using an infrared camera, the temperatures in that room are now in the low to mid 70's, rather than the mid to upper 80's as they were before! Depending on how much my Power Bill is over the next 2 months using 2 Midea units, I may just buy another Midea unit and put it in the Spare Bedroom and completely cut out the HVAC altogether and never spend another penny on it or the filters required to run it! The Media has a washable filter. I've bought the single hose units before. They ALWAYS suck in hot, humid air through any cracks you have between the inside and outside of your house to replace the air they are supposed to be "cooling" as they exhaust the heat transfer generated by the compressor and coils. The physics involved simply means you're sucking hot, humid air into your house if you’re using a single hose unit and it literally is a self-defeating technology. This is probably the easiest AC unit I've ever installed. I've installed Window Units, Single Hose Units, and this Dual Single Hose Unit is, by FAR, the easiest unit to install. It comes with ALL the hardware to install in any kind of window (vertical or horizonatal). Good insulation around the window hardware, PLENTY of insulating material, and instructions that even I can follow! LOL It is relatively quiet while running and it also includes a heating function! They say that if you're using it for heat, you'll need the drain line and a bucket or other line running the condensation out. I've not used the heating function on either unit yet, so I can't say whether this is true or not. I can't recommend this unit highly enough. 5 stars is all that is allowed. But I can promise you this, if you have an area of 200-500 sq ft, you will NOT find a better deal than this one. Especially at the current price! You can literally replace your $10,000 to $15,000 HVAC unit with 3 of these units with a total cost of roughly $1,500 and a simple install of each unit. I'd get it while the getting is good!

I bought this item under the assumption that the two-hose design would isolate the intake and exhaust air from the interior of the home. Unfortunately, this is not entirely the case and results in a significant of outside air let in, and in the case of the recent wildfire smoke, very harmful air. Air quality dropped drastically with this unit on, and smoke could be smelled near the unit. Turning off the unit relieved the issue. If you peer down the hoses, you can see through the unit to the floor of the home. Continue with a flashlight against the rear vents and condensate hose hookups and you can see further light shining inside the unit. All of these are areas where exterior air leaks into the home. Beyond the issues with wildfire smoke, this could have a significant impact on the unit's rated efficiency since it's pulling in hot and humid air. Potentially a great product, but Midea need to do a significant redesign to ensure that the intake and exhaust air is much better sealed from the interior of the home. Do not recommend with the current design.

My sister bought the 12000 BTU one and it literally cools the entire upstairs of the house. So that convinced me. A welcome relief in the heat wave we are having. Arrived with a hole in the box. And I did not think much of it. My brother rushed and installed it for me as it is 95 degrees today. Easy to install to less than half an hour. And then I noticed it has a crack. Seems cosmetic so I am gonna put electrical tape over it and hope for the best. (I have 3 midea window units and 2 out 3 had dented boxes that caused fins to get bent and oddly every store I went to had damage in similar places so I think it is a general packaging issue). Otherwise it is working well, connected great to the app so I can control it from my phone. Total godsend in the weather.

I'm almost furious at myself for not just outright buying this portable AC! I think I didn't because when I first moved into this apartment, I noticed that they only supplies a single hole in their bedrooms for a single hose portable AC unit. I had also never used portable AC units before and didn't know their capabilities and limitations. It also didn't even occur to me to try and set it up in my living room with some creative solutions. I live in the pacific northwest and while it doesn't get absurdly hot here like when I lived in Austin, TX and Las Vegas, NV, you'll still get bursts of heat up in the mid-90s. A single hose portable AC will maybe cool a single room, if you make sure to close the door. And yes, most apartments here (even newer ones like the one I live in) still don't have central air conditioning. I live in a 1 bedroom with an office/den apartment that is 783 sq. feet. and tried to get by with one single hose portable AC unit the first summer I lived here. I was absolutely miserable outside of my room. The second summer, I decided to get a second single hose portable AC unit (I used the 2nd unit in my living room and just set up the hose to exhaust out of my balcony sliding door) and was able to cool down my entire apartment rather well. But my electricity bill jumped about 3x when running both single hose AC units! Single hose portable AC units are known for being completely inefficient. And given that they are all that I know, I just assumed dual hose portable ACs would be...marginally better at best. So, I didn't have high hopes for this Midea Duo model. But I was at my wit's end after one of my portable AC units refused to work this summer. I kind of really wanted the Midea Portasplit, but they're just not available here in the US yet. Reluctantly, I just opted to pull the trigger on the Midea Duo with very low expectations. When I first hooked it up, it was 84 degrees in my apartment. On that day, I had one portable AC blowing at 64 degrees and basically producing little to no cool air along with a ton of fans blowing around, trying to keep me cool. The high temperature that day, according to The Weather Channel was 88 degrees. At first, I felt discouraged. Not much cool air was being created by the Midea Duo. I just didn't know what to expect out of this unit. I decided to just let it run as I was going out all day the next day to see friends. When I got home later that night, I was absolutely FLOORED. It was crisp and cool/cold in my apartment. I think the temperature was around 65 degrees (yes, I like it COLD in my apartment). Granted, the outside temp that day dropped down to 75 degrees. Regardless, going from 84 degrees indoors the evening before down to 65 the next evening brought a huge smile to my face! I do keep this unit set to 60 degrees. Though it's never officially hit that low in here according to the thermostat, I still wanted to push it. It's gotten down to 61 at one point! Insane. Especially considering this unit is only supposed to cool a 550 sq ft. area! I can't compare notes when it comes to my electricity bill, but I'll be keeping an eye on it. If this unit can cost me just as much (or less) than one single hose portable AC unit and cool with this much power? I'd be a very, very happy person. Still, initial impressions are EXTREMELY good and I highly encourage you to get one of these! I have yet to test this unit when it's 95+ degrees out, but feel it'll hold up well. I'm expecting it to keep the inside of my apartment around 70-75 degrees or so, even with those higher temperatures blazing outside. Considering how much over 550 sq. ft. my apartment is? That's extremely impressive to me! One last bit of a heads-up. If you're like me and have to use a taller slider configuration to be able to use your balcony/patio door, you can find an extra set of slider parts on Walmart's website. I don't think I can link it here, but do a search for: "OEM Midea Air Conditioner AC Black Window Slider Originally Shipped With MAP12S1TBL, MAP14S1TBL, MAP14HS1TBL". I haven't set this up yet and have a temporary workaround for it, but this should fit with the same sliders that came with my AC unit. This will help extend the black slider wall that the exhaust plugs in to from bottom to top of the balcony door. Hope all this helps! GET THIS UNIT TODAY!!

The only bad with this machine is the heater. If it's below 50 outside it will not work. What's the point of having a heater on it if it can't work properly? The AC works wonderful. Installation is a bit of a pain but it's fine. I don't notice the noise. It's easy to move. It look nice.

Okay, quick story: I have a 425 square foot studio condo. I spent $4000 last year replacing my ptac unit (stupid proprietary design). They recalled it 3 months later and I was left with no AC again. I'd already used a portable AC before with terrible results even though it was 14k but and I thought it was top of the line. Nope, SACC was 8.5k, and I didn't know that until it was too late. This time around, I decided I was buying the best unit I could. I decided on the Midea Duo and it has been WONDERFUL! No issues keeping my condo below 74 degrees, measured 18 feet from the unit. If it's not above 95, it stays at 70, easily! I love that I don't have to babysit it at night during cooler weeks if nighttime temps hit the mid-60s; it does all that on its own to protect the compressor. The app works well, I've never had to drain water from it, and I've had no mechanical issues. And it has had a huge impact on my power bill! Last summer during the hottest billing month of the year, my bill hit $180. That same bill was just $145 last week! That was with my old portable AC never being turned off and rarely getting my unit below 77 degrees, whereas with this unit, even when we hit 102 it wouldn't go above 74 degrees inside. I didn't think that kind of performance was even possible with any kind of ac, period. Best purchase ever so far! Turns out my ptac company did me a favor my recalling their unit I spent thousands on, because this even outperformed that!!!
