  • Great little mobile laptop. Buy the renewed ones for great value
Color: Ice Blue Set: i5/8/128
It's small and cute. Nice ice blue color (rather than plain silver). Display isn't bad even if it isn't full 1080P. Battery life >> guess it's ok since you can't fit big batteries in this small footprint. Computing power is adequate for business use (MS Office) but not photoshop stuff. I will use my ipads for that. So I haven't used windows PC for about 6, 7 years since I quit my company office job and didn't need Microsoft Office or any business apps. Was using ipads for most of my web activities, which is pretty good. However, I have once again started some jobs that require office apps and decided on this "renewed" Surface Laptop Go (I first purchased Surface Go 3, but it didn't quite stand up to my needs for office use). First of all, "renewed" isn't like what you see on ebay or craigslist. It's professionally packaged, just like Apple refurbished products that you purchase directly from Apple. Mine had almost 10months warranty remaining. Battery capacity was 100%. It's just great value to go for renewed. The price also has dropped considerably now. I think you can get if for less than $500. It's a great value. Again, if you just need basic computing needs, don't do any graphics intense stuff like video editing or games (although it does some games quite well), and don't mind the small screen, and need to take your laptop with you at all times, this is perfect. By the way, when I work at home, I do have an external display. I purchased a 24" monitor for about $150. With dual monitor set-up, it really boosts your productivity. All this for less than $800. Super happy that I purchased this. So, just crossing my fingers that there won't be any issues with it in the long run. ... show more

  • This is an amazing value
Color: Ice Blue Set: i5/8/128
OK, I'll admit: I was extremely skeptical when buying this "renewed" laptop. I can't tell you how many times I've bought a "refurbished" device only to receive something that looked and performed like it had been to war. Echoing what others have said, this is the exact opposite. My laptop came well-packaged and it comes in Microsoft Certified Refurbished white box. It was even packaged like it was brand new with the plastic wrap on the device and accessories (which were also new). Furthermore, there were no signs of wear or use on the laptop. It looks like a brand new device. I checked the battery health (both with Windows and Linux) and both report the battery at 100% health. In fact, Windows had the cycle count at 2. For the laptop itself, I'm very impressed with the Surface Laptop Go. I was coming from a Chuwi laptop, which was good in its own right, but I can't believe how premium this laptop is. It's fast, well-built and handles anything I need to do on it. Admittedly, I was worried about the display resolution, but after using the device, I can say it was unfounded. The display on this thing is fantastic. Where it falls short on the resolution numbers, it makes up by being a fantastic panel. The keyboard and trackpad are great. I understand that people miss the backlit keyboard, but that's a non-issue for me. I usually turn that feature off to save on battery. The sound quality is also great. It's loud with good clarity. I can't speak on the battery life, yet, but it seems average so far. Being a Microsoft device, Windows 11 is a pleasant experience. However, if you're a Linux fan (like me), you'll be happy to know that everything works out of the box. Overall, I am extremely pleased. The condition, value and performance of the laptop are all fantastic. I can't speak of the longevity of the laptop, but everything seems great so far. Sure, there are better value options out there (Chuwi, Alldocube, etc.) in this price segment, but I worried about the quality control with those devices. I would definitely purchase this again. ... show more

  • Nice laptop
Color: Platinum Set: i5/8/128
******EDIT: Almost two years later and I'm starting to encounter some pretty big problems. Follow me on this journey: First, the enter key was locked up in the activated position and required some delicate "smashing" to fix, but it worked and has not bothered me since. The bigger problem was an unreliable booting experience. Beginning 12/8/24 (days before my finals), I experienced regular boot-loops when trying to power on the laptop. It would boot to the Windows logo for a few seconds and then black screen and shut off with no ability to respond or enter a recovery mode. After taking it to a repair shop, I was told it was not salvageable and would need to be completely wiped before attempting to fix it. I rejected that offer and opted to buy a new laptop altogether. HOWEVER, by some miracle, trying to boot again was SUCCESSFUL almost 24 hours after the problem started. I was able to back up my files quickly, finish my exams and was left pondering what the hell happened. Now, as of 12/20/24, the laptop has experienced the same boot-loop problem multiple times after lifting the lid to wake it from sleep, or pressing the power button after shutting down the night before. In my desperation after reading dozens of reddit posts and watching a handful of youtube videos, I pulled out my hairdryer and warmed my laptop before trying to turn it on and it FIXED the bootloop. From what I've gathered, some components inside of the laptop must not be making contact. Heating up the laptop causes thermal expansion and the components are able to make contact, fixing the problem. So, the laptop is functional, but completely unreliable outside of my home (I can't bring a hairdryer to school with me lol). I expected at least another year or two of life from this laptop, considering I only use it for online word processing, spreadsheets, notion, lab programs and light gaming (modded stardew valley). Most of my usage was within a web browser. I would still describe my time with this laptop as pleasant, and am planning to use it for as long as it can turn on. But I do have to acknowledge that the "point" of being a laptop is defeated if it is only operational within 12 feet of my hairdryer. Alas, my review has called from a perfect 5 stars to a less perfect 4 stars. TL:DR; 2 years after purchasing, my laptop occasionally needs to be heated with a hairdryer to turn on. I had a random issue with the enter key locking up, but fixed it by smashing the key until it released. Overall I don't feel secure taking it with me outside of my home. It still technically works though. I purchased my unit from the seller DIGJUNGLE and had a super great experience with them! Laptop and charger both in FANTASTIC condition. I cannot stress enough that this machine looks brand new. I inspected the entire exterior for scratches or damage and found nothing. It arrived with about 30% charge and a fresh install of windows. It needed a few updates after the initial set-up and after exiting Windows S-Mode it was ready to go. This laptop is light, small and portable (weighs about 2 pounds). The battery seems to last me 4-5 hours of mixed casual use at low-medium brightness (some of chrome tabs a few programs running in the background). This is plenty for my use as a student, but you can extend the battery life by lowering the brightness as much as possible and enabling battery saver mode. I noticed that slowed the battery drain substantially. Charging to full from around 20% battery took me about 1.5-2 hours with the included charger. If you have USB-C charger with higher wattage, you'll probably get a faster charge. The laptop runs silent. I only ever heard the fans kick in when I was downloading big windows updates in addition to my regular use and left it on my blanket. Even then, the fans were very silent, and I almost didn't hear them. EDIT: Later on while installing Windows 11, the fans got VERY loud. The laptop was running and charging at the same time, so I assume that is what caused it to get hot. In fact, when I disconnected the charger, the fans slowly started getting quieter until it reached normal levels. I suggest not using it while charging to avoid this. But if there's no way around it, be prepared to hear some egregiously loud fans. The keyboard is very nice, with great travel and feedback. It is NOT backlit, disappointing but not a huge deal. The light from the screen is enough to illuminate the keyboard if I need to look down. The trackpad is silky smooth. The body of the laptop is aluminum and plastic. The plastic on the bottom does not feel cheap at all, it's also smooth to the touch. The speakers are loud and clear. The touch display is functional out of the box. The clarity of the screen is also great, you can see pixels if your eyes are right up to it, but from a normal viewing distance of 1+ feet, it looks great! The screen gets decently bright, but it isn't the best for outdoor use as the reflective glossy screen could make things even more difficult to see. No complaints for indoor use though! Overall this machine is a great value! Perfect for students or people with light workloads in general. Highly recommend, but be VERY CAREFUL when selecting a seller. Make sure to look at the individual seller's reviews not just the product page's reviews. Side note: Out of the box, it seemed to have adaptive brightness enabled with no option to turn it on in the windows display settings. This made the screen choppily darken when the images on the screen were dark and choppily brighten while light colors were being displayed. This was TERRIBLE, highly distracting and just plain ugly. It's considered a "power saving" feature, but I felt like it drained the battery more than anything. If this bothers you as much as it did for me, there is a way to disable it. It is called DPST-Control can be found on GitHub. It's a much easier solution than messing around with the registry. ... show more
