Used this to DIY install a new JVC KW-R920BTS car stereo into my 2000 BMW 528i. I definitely recommend pre-drilling the top bracket holes into your dash - was virtually impossible trying to do it without a hole available. It was also a little tricky getting the side brackets connected to the stereo, but I eventually figured something out that worked well enough. The only casualty in the entire process was one chipped fingernail :(. But it was totally worth it - the unit works great and the bracket looks like it came with the vehicle. Perfect fit and very easy to install...after the long and tedious process of prepping the car and adjusting the side brackets to the stereo. it took me 3 hours to get the perfect fit in my e39. I had to grind out some plastic in the back of the stereo cavity (on top of the air box) to give the back of the stereo room to tilt the face up. Before the modification to the air ducts under the dash, the face of the stereo was angled a bit to far down for me. This is probably dependent upon the dimensions of the stereo you have. The color matches OEM black trim very well and is very sturdy. It is a decently annoying job to remove the old radio tray and everything else to install this but man it is worth it. I bought a super cheap radio which had a bezel that was too big and had to use a dremel and clearance the dash kit but that was the radio makers fault, my older double din fit extremely perfect but I needed the touchscreen and back up cam lol. You can not beat this kit with the way it angles the radio and how it makes the car feel. I highly recommend this! ... show more

It may have been my particular model double din stereo but it was a PITA to get it to line up properly. Even so the bottom two tabs on the faceplate don't click in and stay. It works but could be better

    • Don't take apart dash. Cut out bracket. E39 BMW

Great product, easy to use. Just for any other new people to the E39 and other BMW. Instead of tearing dash out, use a saw to cut the bracket out. It will save you a ton of hassle.
