We own a small yarn store and this item is necessary. We have now wound 30+ skeins in the first month and all skeins were lace, fingering and some dk. There are 2 things we have learned so far to make it awesome. The bracket that holds the tension guides is not strong enough and needs either stronger metal or another bracket and base to lock everything down. Secondly the yarn ball starts too high on the bobbin. When the ball gets full it slips and creates some issues. After these simple modifications I would give this 5 stars easily.

It works very well. Has enough power to do the job. It came with no assembly instructions but there is a video on this page and it was pretty simple to assemble. Was a bit confused about how to thread the yarn but again, once I figured it out it worked well.

When I walked into my closet with my latest "great buy" on yarn (it really was a great buy...), I realized that even if I crocheted for months on end, project after project, I'd still have yarn left! So I started a "dual" hobby of tufting. Tufting creates a soft, carpet-like effect on tufting cloth mounted on a frame by using a tufting "gun" loaded with yarn. The way skeins of yarn come, they are not ready to be used in a tufting gun as it is sort of like a sewing machine in that the "bobbin" of yarn threads through the gun and a needle pierces the cloth to create the carpet. So this ball winder is exactly what I need to prepare the yarn to be used with the tufting gun. It works just as it should, making a ball of yarn that I can place on a rod attached to the side of the tufting frame that holds the taut cloth. Gotta have tools to make a hobby easier to do, right? And this does help me with my tufting hobby for sure!
