I have an electric yarn winder and I had a lot of issues in winding some yarn on it. The biggest issue was keeping it running because it went way too fast and caused its own set of problems. Even working through those problems like going so fast the skein couldn't keep up or the other methods just didn't work, what I ended up with was very loose and hardly held any yarn to it. I have mobility issues and can tell you that this cranking yarn winder is much easier for me to us and the cake is denser, holding much more yarn in a small cake. I did have the tension arm staying up as an issue, but a couple of clothes pins at the base helped that issue. I had a better time winding it by hand than trying to keep up with a machine that would jump and wind below the whole thing toward the gears and constantly seizing it up and having to be freed. Overall, I'd choose this one with a tension arm issue over that electric one. It's going in storage as a backup to the old crank style. ... show more

Worked great for a few months but overtime it as started to bend on the metal pole that holds the yarn. So, not super durable but worked for my needs. Compact size makes it easy to store. Red and tan color and shown. Will be ordering a different one soon, thinking electric.

Took a few minutes to figure out how to set up the clamp and yarn guide. Works well and saved hours winding fine yarn from skeins into neat balls. Tension is good, yarn isn't stretched.

I never owned a yarn baller before but for a first it's been great. The little metal arm to hold the yarn doesn't work very well, but holding onto it works just fine. It's easy to use and just screws down onto a table that's thin enough. I usually make bigger projects and need way more yarn, so I just made a sort of extension using cardboard and it works just fine. It's a good little thing to have on hand! ... show more
