Our 1/2" shank sets (#714/WLNR) fit standard AXA (100 Series) quick-change tool posts on most mini/mid-size lathes. The 5/8" models (#MGS) are optimized for BXA (200 Series) posts. Check your tool post size before ordering. Can these tools machine tough materials like 304 Stainless Steel or 4140 Hardened Steel? Absolutely. Our CVD-coated inserts are engineered for tough alloys. For 316SS, we recommend a lower cutting speed (approx. 250-350 RPM) and steady coolant to ensure a professional finish and prevent heat buildup. Why is your price higher than budget sets? You are investing in NITRIDED holders. This treatment offers superior hardness and vibration absorption. Budget sets vibrate more, causing inserts to chip and ruining your surface finish. Quality tools save money in the long run. Do I need to grind or sharpen these bits? No. These are indexable tools. When an edge becomes dull, simply loosen the screw and rotate the insert to a fresh, sharp corner. This saves hours of grinding time and ensures consistent, out-of-the-box accuracy for every project. My inserts are chipping. What should I do? Chipping is usually caused by Center Height misalignment. Ensure the tool tip is precisely on the lathe's center line.
