I know nothing about metal detectors. This seemed like an inexpensive ($40 ) way to try out metal detecting. It does beep when scanning over metal objects I put out in the yard. I see that there are some pretty pricey one out there and have no clue what the difference in capabilities are. This unit requires two 9 volt batteries to operate. It's fairly lightweight and easy to maneuver. There weren't any assembly instructions but It wasn't too difficult to put together. ... show more

Nice for someone like me who does this for a hobby. I was confused by the settings since the instructions were not clear but I finally figured it out. Try to put it on “all metals” settings if you want to just go looking for Random metal.
