Recently retired and on a budget, I wanted to cook more & eat out less. To up my game, I bought a few pieces of Zwilling pro S knives which I think are great. Then I found this set with all the pieces I was interested in at a fraction of the price. After reading the specs and reviews, I decided to try them out. Honestly, I am not a professional chef, but I find these knives very comparable with the Zwillling as far as looks, thickness of blades, sharpness, feel, and performance. I have only used these a few weeks, but find myself looking at the blade logo to figure out which brand I am using. They are a joy to use. They suit my needs very well, and am confident they will last a long time with care. I did not need a block, so I was glad that it came in a well made carry case to store pieces I need occasionally or when I go pro after all my chopping experience - Ha

This set of knives with the steel is pretty awesome and super sharp right of the storage case. I'm not a professional chef, just a home chef who loves preparing food. I bought these to replace knives I had picked up here and there over the past 30 years. I have a $250 Damascus chef's knife that now sits quietly on my magnetic rack because I use these more often than not. I added an 11 inch Renaissance slicer from Mercer to make this set complete. These knives go through meat and veggies with little to no effort. First thing is care.... I read a review or two from people complaining about the knives cutting through the storage case material. All it takes to prevent cutting the wrap is to buy blade guards from Mercer or keep the plastic sheathes on the knives they were shipped with while in the storage wrap. I have opened and closed the case two dozen times with zero issues. To keep them sharp and at the ready, I use the steel before slicing and after before placing them back into the case. One thing to keep in mind is DO NOT put them in a dishwasher. Dishwasher will cause your blades to eventually rust and become dull. The proper way to clean them is to hand wash with warm/hot soapy water and immediately dry with a clean cloth before placing back in the case. I could go on and on how nice these are but I would just be repeating what others have said before me. If you buy these, take care of them, they will perform beautifully and last a long time.

I purchased this knife set last year because I liked the handle style (it matches well the vintage utensils that I still use) and I was sick of my mismatched "set" of knives that was based on thrift store finds and leftovers that my mom gave me 20 years ago. I was inclined toward Mercer as they are well reviewed as a good budget but professional quality brand, and apparently are a favorite of culinary school students as being acceptable quality but less expensive than Wüsthof or Zwilling. I have to say that my experiences say that that reputation is deserved; if I had to complain about anything it is that after some use I had my more used knives professionally sharpened (at District Cutlery in Washington, DC) and now I like them even better, although that is only a criticism of the factory edge not the knife itself. Currently the only knives that I regularly use that didn't come with this set are an old Chicago Cutlery paring knife which is just a handy size/shape and a Japanese Damascus steel santoku which for some uses I prefer to a chef's knife.

For great set of knives that can tackle anything and nice roll to carry them this is the set for you. I had to buy the cleaver separately but still a great set and stays sharp for a long time.

I have been looking for affordable quality knives for awhile. After doing research and reading reviews I bout these. They remind me of the quality knives my grandmother had. Solid, sharp and weight is perfect balance. I love to cook and was finding more things to cook prep and cut just to use them. Highly recommend just like the reviews say.

Great starter knives for all y'all culinary students....these knives hold there edges pretty well.....I like this knife kit because it's not really putting a dent in your pocket and it's a quality blade......So if your a beginner you should start off with these bad boys and then go to your shun's, miyabi's and Yaxell's because you don't wanna mess up your super expensive knife because you mishandled your tools

Just received my knife kit in the mail and was extremely excited until I noticed that the shoulder strap has a factory default and is broken. After inspecting each knife in the set I noticed the carving knife has a huge chunk taken out of the blade. Although I can straighten it with the honing steal I was disappointed considering this is a brand new set.
