  • More quiet than the more expensive in-line fan
And yes, I would recommend

  • Worth every penny. Thoroughly surprised.
At half the cost of the usual fan/filter setup I have to say this thing has been going very well. It knocks the plant smells out of a room and keeps them gone. Easy to use and arrived quickly.

  • High quality and practical.
2 weeks controlling organics odor at low speed. Really quite effective and quiet.

  • Blower
No smell and function well. They value was worth it and I like the adjustments and it's easy to install. I recommend this for space saver.

  • Poor build quality; buy at your own risk
The first thing I noticed when unpacking this was how cheap the controller felt. I hadn't worried about this part when ordering, since I already have a good controller, but then I discovered this one plugs into the fan with a cheap proprietary pin-plug, so I'm stuck with it. After installing the unit (which takes time and effort), it worked for a couple of minutes before shutting down. I eventually found it has a bad connection where that cheap pin plugs anemically into the fan housing. I could wriggle it to turn on, but could only get it stay on after duct taping the wire to hold it in position. This failure alone rules out a recommendation, especially since the connections are so obviously substandard (so failures are predictable). Luckily, I still have my trusty pancake fan which I'll hook up to this filter. I ordered this mainly because my filter was old, but I was excited about the more compact form-function of an integrated fan. So why not leave this unit running as is, with the duct-tape fix? (Or why not put it on the workbench and do some soldering repairs?) Because this thing is underpowered, and my plants need better air exchange. I wish I could measure the airflow to give a data-driven report, but I'll just say I cannot trust the seller's "500 CFM" statement. For starters, I could notice more airflow by just placing my hands around the old filter, even though its 120-watt fan is rated for only 420 CFM. You could argue this new unit is quieter, but it's a higher-pitched whirring that sounds like a toy compared to my old fan. The fan blades are some sort of plastic composite, arranged as traditional blades, instead of the metal plate style of my old fan. Even the cloth filter cover is cheap and thin, and I don't expect it to hold up long. I'll wash my old cover and adapt it. Hopefully the filter itself does its job as advertised. I'll find out in a few weeks when the smell of the room gets stronger. If you're new to growing and looking for an economical solution, I fear this will cause a lot more aggravation than you deserve. If you're savvy and you're watching the price for a bargain, I suggest paying no more than you would for a comparable standalone filter. Even so, it might arrive dented like mine was -- and you have to factor in the seller's penchant for producing on the cheap. (Did they skimp on the charcoal? I wouldn't know.) The instructions stymied me for awhile when talking about using this for five or ten minutes at a time for dust filtration. Finally I realized they were talking about putting a little bag at the end for clearing the air without using ductwork (?). I hadn't realized anyone would buy something like this for such a short-term purpose. I like that they provided hanging eyelets and hooks for convenience. The filter flange where you connect your duct feels like sturdy, painted metal, not plastic. ... show more

  • Dont buy
Just got it today and already regret it. I thought it would be decent since its 70 dollars. The thing came damaged. Its huge, bulky as can be, the fan is super loud. The super cheap fan speed controller only works about half way then it turns on, its super loud. Should of just bought a different one. ... show more
