  • Perfect solution to replace aging, sagging IKEA slats
Size: Queen Style: Wood Slats
I recently upgraded to a heavy memory foam mattress for my IKEA queen Trysil bed frame. I was using a model of IKEA slats that were purchased with the bed many years ago. With the new mattress, I immediately noticed that the old IKEA slats seemed to be sagging and unable to serve as a solid base for the mattress like the manufacturer recommends. I needed to find a solution that would let the mattress breathe while serving as a flat, solid platform (unlike the worn out "suspension" style of uneven IKEA slats I was using). I was disappointed at first because I thought this problem might require purchasing an entirely new bed frame - I didn't want to replace the slats with a new set of IKEA ones, since I figured the same problems would surface over time due to the company's lightweight construction. Then I fortunately stumbled across this as a solution. The Mellow slat system arrived quickly and in perfect condition. My biggest concern was that the size or design would be incompatible with the underlying support structure built into the IKEA frame, but I quickly found out the Mellow system fit perfectly. The Trysil bed has two side rails and a center bar, and the Mellow slat frame aligned with this very well so I knew it would be structurally sound. The only "downside" about the Mellow fit was that there were a couple inches of a gap which would allow the Mellow slat frame to slide around inside the bed frame, but this was easily solved by using some of the soft foam padding from the Mellow packaging to wedge in between gaps on all four sides. I can't knock Mellow for this because I understand the product isn't designed specifically for the model of bed I have - the dimensions still worked and just required the small "hack" to get a perfectly secure fit to eliminate the possibility of sliding. My guess is that the size of the Mellow system allows it to work universally with a number of different bed frames, but I would still recommend that other purchasers measure their bed's internal structure to make sure this would be compatible. The construction was incredibly simple even for a lone person like myself. The queen size comes with a lengthwise bar that has a foam strip on it, which I assumed should be turned so the foam would rest on the wooden slat side to reduce noise, which it seems to do well as there is no noise from my mattress after putting it back on the frame. The height of my mattress ended up being slightly lower than it was with the IKEA slats, because the Mellow system has a lower thickness than the curved slats on the IKEA model. I personally prefer this lower profile since my thick mattress ends up at a perfect height with my nightstands. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this solution. It was much cheaper and more convenient than buying a new bed frame. I'm able to sleep comfortably knowing my new mattress is properly supported, which allows it to work as designed and hopefully have better longevity due to a solid support system. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in a similar predicament, as long as you measure your bed carefully to make sure this will work with your existing bed frame like it did with mine. ... show more

  • Perfect in my RV
Size: Queen Style: Wood Slats
We ordered the bunkie board as a way to allow airflow under the new memory foam mattress that we purchased for our RV. It was incredibly easy to put together (hex wrench included) and fit both the designated space and the mattress perfectly. The spacing between the slats is just slightly more than recommended for the mattress, but it should work. The center support is a win! I love how sturdy it feels, and wouldn't hesitate to use it with a regular bedframe as well as on the solid wood platform of the RV. I chose not to use the adhesive since the mattress is supposed to be rotated every 6 months or so, and it wouldn't do to have the frame stuck to the mattress. ... show more

  • Easy to assemble, could have been slightly wider
Size: Queen Style: Wood Slats
It "just" fit side rail ledge/battens of my queen frame from Crate and Barrel, but was 0.5 to 1 cm too narrow so I had to wedge in some felt pads to keep it from sliding laterally. Took the advice of another reviewer and mounted 2 support posts on the center bar. So far so good.

  • Great Support
Size: Twin Style: Wood Slats
Fits Perfectly and Supports the Mattress on all sides as well as the middle. I tried wooden slats, but the support was uneven. This product was easy to assemble. Perfect solution for my new mattress that was sagging.

  • Made a huge difference in comfort!
Size: Queen Style: Wood Slats
I never realized what a difference a box spring or bunkie board could make under your mattress. We've kept the same old box spring for years -through 3 mattresses. We were about to buy a new mattress and decided to do this first to lower the bed for my wife. That mattress is now so comfortable that we're keeping it for the foreseeable future. With its own metal frame, this is a sturdy product once put together. Yeah, I'd like to talk to their engineers about assembly - one small change that would cost them $0 would make this easier on your knuckles. But, once together, it's very sturdy. There are some non-slip pieces on top of the wood that are supposed to stop your mattress from sliding around. I was skeptical but they work! I had trouble getting my mattress into place because of these - I had to lift it into its proper place. Now that it's there, that mattress isn't going anywhere. ... show more

  • Super-easy set up
Size: Twin Style: Wood Slats
This is a solid box frame that took less than 30 minutes to assemble. I have a foam mattress in my guest room (I'll never get one of THOSE again) and this gets the bed low enough for my 13-year-old boxer to jump on and off of the bed with ease. Further, having the lowered bed is easier for any humans sitting on it and makes the room feel less crowed. I like the fact that it comes with a wrench to assemble the metal frame and that the slats are made of real wood -- not MDF or some sort of moulded urethane. The adhesive tape also is a nice, unexpected bonus for keeping the bed in place. I would definitely get one of these again, should I need one. ... show more

  • Bed bugs
Size: Queen Style: Wood Slats
Great for putting on a broken bed however it comes with bed bugs, they get caught in the Velcro so it can take months before any signs of them other than bumps on the skin, thank you I have wasted so much money now to get rid of them

  • Meh
Size: Twin Style: Wood Slats
It feels flimsy. Took like 2 mins to put together. Stickers to mark parts was wrong but we luckily were born with common sense lol. I sleep on my sons bed with him sometimes and it feels like it doesnt hold that much weight.
