  • Excelente TiraLeche!
... show more

  • Great product for my wife - TIPS on making it quieter and preventing back-flow
After my wife gave birth to my daughter at the hospital, she wanted to breast feed and I supported her decision to do so. After a c-section however, they recommended using a breast pump to get the milk to the baby via the bottle. The unit they had at the hospital was a Medela Symphony, and she loved it. The problem is that it costs over $1,200.00 and we could not afford anything near that at the time for home use. After we read many reviews, we decided to give the Medela Swing Breast Pump a try, and overall we are very impressed with it for a single breast unit. The milk output is very similar to the $1200.00 hospital unit, which is great. Now for the cons that I have read for this product, and a way we found to fix them... The tubing that comes with it causes two undesirable effects. The first issue is that breast milk can back its way into the tubing if you are not careful and can get into the motor, which is bad news all around for many reasons, including contamination (think of weeks old milk trapped in there, yuck). Secondly, it is a bit loud. Not so loud that it wakes everyone up in the house, but loud enough to make watching TV or having a conversation distracting, not to mention making the baby wonder what the heck is going on. ** HERE IS HOW WE FIXED these two problems: Purchase a longer length of Medela breast pump tubing. The ones for the Symphony fit the Swing Pump perfectly. We tried the longer tubing that was used with the hospital Symphony model that they gave to us when we left (which is around 42 inches long instead of the included 28 inches long tubing) and the difference was astounding. I would have NEVER thought that a slightly longer tubing would quiet the unit by 80% AND help prevent back-flow, but it did... as weird as it sounds. Using the extra long tubing, we give this unit 5 stars and I hope that they will start including a longer tubing with the unit in the future to fix these issues. Just do a search on Amazon for "Medela Symphony Tubing" and it will work well with the Medela Swing Pump. Hope this helps somebody out. ... show more

  • decent pump force, design flaws
It's light, somewhat portable (if you use batteries) and does a decent job pumping/emptying breast - one at a time that is. You need to realize that the plastic body is half-empty thus making it even lighter than what you would expect. The rest of the body holds the motor AND four batteries. That gives you an idea of how small the motor is. The body is made out of very light plastic which results in rather loud grawling sound for a tiny machine. I cannot use it at night in the same room where someone is sleeping, unless you put a pillow over it. It pumps well for its size. Can empty a full breast in 15 minutes (about 4oz). I have not tried to use the batteries so I cannot say anything about battery life and efficiency of pumping. The flaw for me is the new design of the connector - specifically the hole in which you plug the tube. The tube constantly falls out due to very loose/insecure connection. The tube is barely held in the spot. Solution - use the old connectors which you would have to buy separately. I bought it because I did not want to carry the dual pump back and forth to/from work everyday; and I knew I would only need to pump one breast at a time while at home. A month later, I think that it is too expensive - should not be more than $90. But I am still using it daily as needed. I also have an old manual design pump and it does just as good job at almost the same speed. So you could get a manual for $30 or less and it will be quiet, portable and not need any power supply. As a bonus your arms will get a good workout. ... show more
