  • All the difference!
Style: 20 mm
A lactation consultant gave me a Medela shield when my first baby was in the hospital with failure to thrive due to a tongue tie. Within days, she was gaining weight, and we were able to bring her home! Hugest relief of my life. Instead of running the risk of low weight gain and latching issues again with my second baby, I used the shield right out of the gate. My baby is gaining weight well, I’m thrilled to say! I love that they added the carrying case—I must have lost DOZENS with baby #1 before they added this. Cleaning is very easy. I just wash by hand with hot water and dish soap. Make sure to scrub up inside the nipple and rinse til you remove all soap. Try to avoid scented soaps since that might throw your baby for a loop. If your baby keeps spitting out the shield, it might be because you switched soaps or the soap is too strong. You can also drop these shields in microwave sterilizer bags just like bottle parts. Also: I started using these because my baby needed them, but having tried nursing without them a few very memorable, very terrible times, and they help breastfeeding not HURT. My baby bites away when she’s cluster-feeding, and I’ve never had to use nipple balm or had those “cracked, bleeding nipples” people talk so much about. It is actually a SHIELD. I wear it for me as much as her. There are a couple of slight downsides to be aware of, but for how cheap they are to replace and how literally LOST I would be without them, they are well worth it. #1: Although the case helps, the shield itself is very easy to lose because it is clear. I wish they would put a colored dot or something on it to help me keep track. #2: As much as I love the carrying case, the hinge on it is not very durable. After a month and a half, it started falling apart. #3: I know a lot of people intend to use shields only for a short time while their baby gains more sucking power. However, neither of my babies would recognize the nipple without the shield and were super distressed when I tried to wean from it, so I ended up using the shield the whole time. Now that my baby is a few months old and her suck is stronger, the shields have started cracking between the holes after several weeks. This is still totally acceptable turnover for me, but it is important to look out for that when you are cleaning it so you know it’s time to replace. In sum, if you have short or small nipples, a baby with a tongue tie, an early baby, or any kind of latching issues, these can make a priceless difference for an extremely affordable price. Just be aware that if your baby learns to nurse with a shield, he or she may not adapt easily to nursing without it even though most nursing consultants prescribe nipple shields as a short-term fix. Tip: buy A LOT and stash them EVERYWHERE: your car, your bag, the baby’s bag, grandma’s house, etc. You don’t want to be stuck somewhere with your baby needing to nurse and no shield since you forgot to put it back in the diaper bag. ... show more

  • Saved my breastfeed journey!
Style: 20 mm
I have tiny nipples so my baby wasn’t latching. I’m 6 weeks postpartum and I still use these every time I breastfeed. You get used to them and I don’t even have to think about it when I put them on now. The first 2 weeks were tricky with getting used to applying them. But I never experienced cracked or sore nipples, and I will use these until I’m done breastfeeding. The only downside to them is that when you pull them off after a feed whatever milk is left in the nipple shield will leak a little, so have a burp cloth nearby. ... show more

  • Hard to keep on
Style: 20 mm
Works fairly well for its intended purpose. It’s really hard to keep on. It helped at the beginning of my breastfeeding journey to help my baby latch. I got frustrated with how hard it was to keep on, and thankfully don’t need it anymore.

  • Love these!
Style: 20 mm
These were great and helpful during latching issue phase. Comfortable and easy to use, and still allow for skin to skin contact (mouth to breast) compared to other brands. Lightweight and compact.

  • A lifesaver for a breastfeeding mom!
Style: 24 mm
I’m a first time mom and these were actually recommended to me by my son’s pediatrician when I shared with her that I was having an issue with him latching incorrectly and it was causing my nipples great discomfort and pain. I bought these the same day she recommended them to me and they have been a lifesaver ever since, my son is now 7 weeks and he’s able to eat properly all while my nipples are being protected! I absolutely love these, such a genius invention. The only room for improvement I would say is that I wish the suction was a little stronger. Nevertheless I would re buy these as many times as I need to! ... show more

  • LIFESAVING!
Style: 20 mm
I’m a first time mom and I bought these as a just in case breastfeeding was painful. I didn’t want to give up because of that. My daughter was having trouble latching, she would for a few seconds but then let go and get frustrated. I decided to break these open to see if they would work. First use and she latched on no problem and actually breastfed !! Second time it was just the same. I am SO happy that this product exists. ... show more
