After performing a complete remodel of our home we wanted great looking & great functioning toaster, and this is it. I always figured that a toaster is just a toaster. How exciting could that be? This toaster is actually pretty cool! Other than the fact that looks like it cost a whole lot more than it did, these wide slots toast very evenly and it has some thoughtful features, one of which I didn't even know about for the first 6 moths that I owned it :) If you slide the button down on the opposite end of the toaster it makes a little wire frame warming-rack popup that hovers above the open toasting slots. What's this for? I'm glad you asked. It's a place to set a bagel with cream cheese, for example, to soften things or just to keep your toast or muffins warm until you sit down for breakfast. At first I thought it was a gimmick but I actually use this feature frequently. My toaster is still working faithfully and I get a lot of nice compliments from company on my classy looking toaster. I studied dozens of toasters before making this purchase - this one had the features I was looking for, a small enough footprint and an easy to clean finish and crumb tray. It performs Exactly as promised!! I'm totally delighted with it. It's well crafted and a great value. I especially love the built-in warming rack and the controls. I can feel the dial click even if I can't hear it. The finish is brushed so it looks much neater. The crumb tray pops out easily and it's not a hassle sliding it back in. Highlights: built-in warming rack cool touch exterior dial "clicks" buttons light up buttons have words not pictures large timer Wish It Had: peek to view lift bagel image on top cover included I did buy a silicone cover for it here on Amazon and it works very well covering the slots. It wasn't expensive. This is definitely 5 Stars. It's heavy weight, very nicely crafted. It feels like it might last me the rest of my life. It does everything I need it to do and it does it just right. There are a couple of "extra" things I wish it could do in a perfect world. I love this toaster! It browns the bread very evenly, can accommodate up to 4 slices of regular bread or 2 slices of very wide bread. I find this very nice since my last toaster couldn't handle wider breads (think Beefsteak Rye or sourdough). The pop-up warming rack is a nice touch too. Only two cons for this model - first, it doesn't include a "lift" feature to raise the rack up to more easily retrieve the toast, second, it has a LOT of lift if you're only toasting one slice of bread. I mean the toast can literally clear the top of the toaster (see video)! It makes it kinda fun to attempt to catch the toast in mid air, unfortunately, it once went up and bounced of the top and down between the counter and the fridge. I really appreciate the countdown timer on the front as it helps me to time the other parts of the meal to the toast getting done. Overall, it's a nice, well-built toaster that should last me years (not like the $24 slimline toaster it replaced that only lasted 5 weeks!) ... show more

Really nice and well priced toaster. Digital read out of how many minutes/secs are left which is nice. Especially like the feature where you just push a button and 2 trays pop up and allow you to warm or toast buns or bagels etc. Really handy and well designed.

I bought this for it's many features. Initially, it did not toast properly. It was either too light or too dark - on the same settings. It does have several 'toast color' settings, and the knob 'clicks' between each of these pre-set toasting colors - BUT IT DOESN'T VARY THE TOASTING. Set it on 4-1/2 and you still get 4. I tried 'manipulating' the way it toasted, but putting it through one toasting on light and then repeating this to get the color I wanted, but it then just burned it around the edges. It's quite slow in toasting too - 2-1/2 minutes to lightly toast (when it 'lightly toasted'), which was longer than my old toaster. (Said to be because it needs more voltage.) For the price of this 'non toaster', it is ridiculous that I have to toast, and re-toast to get the color I want - and possibly burn the bread - instead of just the 'old-fashioned method' of just toasting once IN A DECENT TOASTER! In addition, it is difficult to remove the toasted bread from the toaster. It does not have a 'lift' option to raise the toast higher, so you have to risk your fingers or dig the toast out with tongs or a fork - both possibly dangerous for electrical shock. I now learn that I am a few days past the 'returnable date', and having trouble sending the toaster to be repaired or replaced. After my trusty retro KitchenAid toaster quit unceremoniously in the middle of a toast cycle, I went online to look for a replacement. First, I checked the stock of local stores with good appliance prices, notably P.C. Richards, Best Buy, and Bed Bath and Beyond, but I didn't see anything I liked. So I came here to Amazon -- there's nothing better than the testimonials of fellow reviewers -- and scoped out the usual suspects: Cuisinart, Black and Decker, Proctor Silex, Hamilton Beach, etc. Imagine my dismay to find many recent negative accounts of the products of these household names, including toasters catching on fire, failing to toast evenly, and the like... Then I happened upon this toaster from an unknown brand called Mecity. (The box photo I have attached omits even that name, as you can see...) I liked the sleek design of it, and I liked the features, which were almost identical to those of the KitchenAid, but with some interesting enhancements, notably: 1) Warming rack. I'm not sure how often I'll use this, but it's nice to have, and it deploys very neatly: the back of the toaster has a lever that looks just like the toasting lever on the front, but this one raises and lowers the warming rack with great precision. Neat! 2) Digital countdown timer. The KA counted down in symbolic whole numbers, but this timer counts down in actual minutes and seconds so you know exactly how long you have to wait for your toast. And as other reviewers have mentioned, the toaster comes with a page of photos showing exactly how dark each of the 6 toaster settings will get your bread. Even more amazing, these photos are dead-on accurate! Otherwise, I appreciate the toaster's other modern conveniences, including the bagel function, defrost, re-warm, and cancel. All the buttons light up (or turn off, in the case of the cancel function) when you touch them, to confirm your selection. And let me return to the subject of precision. The controls on this toaster have a refined feel that even the mighty KitchenAid lacked: the darkness knob turns with a slight ratcheting motion that somehow inspires confidence, and the two levers for toasting and warming rack deployment also click into place with a grace Steve Jobs would have approved of. Finally, Mecity includes a one-year warranty and an email address where you can get support. I should mention as well that the instructions included are well written in good English, suggesting that Mecity might be a firm that knows what it's doing. So folks tired of disappointing products from brand names might want to give this generic toaster a try. PROS: * Handsome stainless steel design. * Digital minutes-and-seconds countdown timer. * Warming rack. * Bagel, defrost, re-warm, cancel functions. * Easily removable crumb tray. * One-year warranty. * Reasonably priced for a full-featured toaster. CONS: * "Mecity" not a household name. UPDATE (9/22/2022): I just discovered another clever trick this toaster has up its, uh, slots: if you make more than one pair of toast in quick succession, the timer will automatically start at a lower time to compensate for the heating elements being pre-heated. For example, your first pair of toast will take 2 minutes, and the next pair will take around 1 minute and 40 seconds. So your toast always comes out at the right level of "doneness." Have to say right off the bat, I was impressed with the packaging of the unit by the manufacturer, not so much with Amazons outer pack. Unit was well protected though by manufacturers packaging. Opened up and did the burn in to make sure no gases or by products from the manufacturing would contaminate or add something to the breads. Pros: Dialed in where I typically like my toast and tried a piece of bread, really came out exactly as described in the directions of settings. Not sure if i would stand and watch a timer, but it is there. Average toast is probably around 2.5 to 3 minutes. Quiet on release once done and pops up. I like the pop up warming rack, for keeping a second slice warm while buttering the first slice, and for possibly doing croissants or similar type of roll/pastry. Very nice finish, stays cool to the touch (outer) and just seems well made. I have not had to clean it yet, but the slide out tray is a spring loaded pop out style and locks in nicely, as well as comes out easily with just a slight push on it. Looks as though it will be easy to maintain. Functions of the buttons seem easy enough and are highlighted in a blue LED light. Nice clearly written pamphlet and quick start instructions inside as well, but it is just a toaster. Cons: None at this time only time will tell, but just from the observation so far, I don't expect any issues. I would definitely recommend this product at this time. If I have an issue I'll come back and re-write my issue. ... show more
