  • Not impressive
Bought this looking at reviews but honestly didn’t trust it much. I am not impressed with the machine for the price point its at. Pros: 1. The machine is compact & doesnt require large storage space 2. Instructions are well written to follow 3. Easy to clean Cons: 1. Its too noisy 2. The expresso doesnt produce much crema 3. The expresso is not well extracted and there is water left in the strainer 4. Steamer doesnt create good level of foam needed for cappuccino 5. It doesn’t come with a pitcher and you would need to buy it separately Overall, not too happy for now considering its been only 3 days since using it. Will try a bit more to see how it works & will update if anything changes: ... show more

  • Perfect size for a small kitchen
I absolutely love coffee and was sad when our last espresso machine finally gave out. We were financially tight at the time and had to settle for a coffee maker that also had a "specialty brew" function that made smaller amounts of stronger coffee. We don't have lots of counter space so when I saw this little espresso machine, I was excited about being able to brew my own espresso again. Not only that, it has a steaming wand for the milk, not just a frother. The machine is lightweight and compact but sturdy. The water reservoir comes off for easy washing when needed. The included portafilter locks easily into place and WOW I forgot how good freshly brewed espresso tastes! The espresso comes out nice and dark with a beautiful crema on top. I use the Cafe Bustello brand because I used it in the past and it made a great cup. I also plan on trying the espresso roast and French roast of my favorite brand. Definitely don't recommend using regular ground coffee as it doesn't give anywhere near the same flavor and, in fact, it tastes rather watery so we're keeping the other brewer for those ones. It comes with a couple of packets of lemon-scented cleaner, and a tiny pin that slips into the rubber on the steaming wand. I think this is for cleaning out the portafilter inserts but that seems tedious and I find that just washing them when you use them keeps them clean. The portafilter head and both inserts (single and double servings) are stainless steel. The handle of the portafilter is plastic. The instructions are excellent! They were very easy to follow for set up and first use plus it includes detailed instructions for how to clean it. For the price, I would have liked it to come with a frothing pitcher and the little stainless brew cups, though I was able to find both of those for a fair price as well. Overall, a good little machine that makes an excellent cup of epresso! ... show more

  • Bare bones but makes decent coffee and foam
Pros: Makes good foam and coffee The 2 drip spouts line up with espresso cups with less guessing Narrow, if counter space is an issue Easy to remove tip and clean Has a little pin for cleaning nozzle opening Has a pressure gauge Heats quickly Price is good Cons: Feels cheap, it's so light weight it moves around counter too easily Doesn't depressurize after steaming Coffee basket is small to where my previous tampers don't fit it Makes some noises that make me think it's struggling and will wear out soon Plastic tamper doesn't store anywhere out of sight (don't want to lay it on top) This is a good to pretty good machine that will do as a backup, mainly because it makes decent coffee and really good foam. The problem is it feels cheap because of the light weight materials, which I thought was mostly plastic but I just tested it with a magnet and found out, to my surprise, this machine is made of metal. Very thin metal I guess, because it moves around the counter when I'm moving the steam wand or inserting the filter basket if I don't hold it down, and I don't like that. The impression of cheapness is reinforced by some noises it makes when you push the coffee buttons, it's like a squealing kind of noise that goes away but makes you wonder if it's going to last very long. If you ever hung around railroad tracks as a kid and heard train cars starting to roll, they make this kind of noise like they're overcoming the rust that built up while they were sitting there. This machine is too new to be making that kind of noise, so I can only hope it's nothing. If it didn't make pretty good tasting coffee, I would be more critical, but it actually does a fair job of it. It doesn't make the crema my Breville made, so the taste good be better, but it makes great foam. The pressure indicator is good but reading on the low side, so I'm thinking if I adjust the grind and get the pressure up, I might get some crema. The one thing I miss the most, comparing to my Breville, is the automatic depressurization that one had. For this machine, I have to remember to turn off the steam button, then point the wand over the tray, then turn on the steam knob to release the pressure. If I don't do that and I just start trying to make coffee, it'll beep at me until I depressurize it. Occasionally my wife has somehow left the steam knob in the open position and then when she tried to make coffee it beeped at her until she figured out the knob was open. I guess she must have done that when the machine was off because I don't know how you could leave that knob open without either water or steam going everywhere, but she did. However, all of that said, if it did have auto-depressurization, that would come at the cost of more internal plumbing, probably making the machine take up more counter space, if that's important to you. I was going to give this 3 stars but bumped it to 4 because it does a good job for the price and, since it's so compact, I'm thinking I could take this on car trips without the bulk of my regular machine. We make coffee 3 times a day, sometimes 4, so it's getting a workout. My $500 Breville only lasted 3-4 years, so if this $170 machine makes it to 1 year, it'll be about in the same league durability wise. At this point however, we're still thinking we'll try to get another Breville on Black Friday and keep this one as a backup or travel machine. The Brevilles, btw, are near impossible to get parts for, and our well known local repair guy won't work on them either, so having a machine like this as a backup is a pretty good idea. ... show more

  • compact design with good instructions
Overall, I'm pleased with this espresso machine. I like the look/design of the machine and also that it takes up less space on the counter. The buttons are very straightforward and the instructions that came with the machine were very easy to understand. The steam wand is giving me a bit of trouble but since I'm still new to making espresso so it's probably user error that will get better with practice. I do like that the steam wand has a very slim design compared to other machines. This machine has more space between where the cup sits and where the espresso comes out, which I really like because I use a regular coffee mug as opposed to an espresso-specific cup. ... show more

  • Great addition.
My last espresso machine was starting to go out, so I decided to try this machine after a friend got one. It is perfect for my home coffee bar set up. Compact and easy to use, clean and store all while being a great machine to make home espresso/coffee drinks. The water tank is the perfect size for a week of espressos and is easy to remove, clean and replace as well as easy to fill. Overall, a great little machine. ... show more
