Yes you need to buy more needles if you want the full effect of how great this tool is, but it's so worth it! I'm a person who re-winds the extra thread onto the bobbin, then I unwind it and re-thread every time. This saves me that extra time spent, plus it's perfect for blended threads on a chart! You write in the symbol and be sure to stick that color on that designated spot. I've heard of people putting clear packaging tape over the paper to make it into a dry-erase and re-usable paper. I haven't done that, but I wish I would have read that before I wrote on mine! It does come with a few extras so I will try it on those. I also purchased the refills for the paper insert, and bought the wrong size, way too big! But I will probably just cut them down to size when needed. Great little product! ... show more

Okay so this isnt all it could be because I am not as organized as I probably should be. The string keeps getting tangled and pulling one out keeps knotting the rats nest of thread. If I pulled each thread out and untangled them before I placed them in the thread holder it might work better. I am knew with cross stitch so keep this on mind when you decide if you my review is of any value to you ... show more

I bought this to help organize the loose floss that came with a kit. This organizer is far superior to the old ‘cardboard with holes in it’ type system. The little foam grips on the sides hold the floss strands separated from each other and the foam needle holders allow me to have several working needles loaded and ready to go. The size is good for travel, carried it in my stitching bag on a camping trip and it worked great. I will probably be buying another one for another project I’m starting. ... show more

Well, they advertise “100% cotton” and even show a picture with the thread marked “100% cotton”. I received it today. As you can see from my photo “100% polyester”! Not only is polyester thread substandard in every way ... the purveyor of this stuff out right LIED.
