Application - 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 2 wheel drive. I blew out my back window hauling debris from my property to the dump. A large branch branch cost me over a grand in new glass and labor. I figured I should get a headache rack since I have a lot of property and it needs a lot of cleaning and I sure as heck do not want to have to replace that window again. So, was it worth it. Yes! If you have a light duty truck and you use it for light duty work, this is the best "bang for the buck" your're going to get. It is not going to stop a shift from a big, heavy load but it will keep those branches and broken closet door from breaking your expensive back glass. It is not made from the finest materials (some of the steel is slightly pitted), it's fit and finish is not Chip Foose level and the paint is thinner that frog hair. This is not a designer piece and it will stand out like a sore thumb on your pretty daily driver that doesn't see a load bigger than a kids dresser from IKEA and your woman's "triple shot, no fat, chocolate chip mocha-chino" This is a great piece if you're on a budget and work your truck like a truck. Also, if you are handy with a welder, this is a great starting point. I plan on making a few additional braces and adding a couple hooks for rope and chain and coating it in bed-liner when I am done. I also plan on swapping the hardware to Grade 8 but I have a tendency to over-do things and none of this is necessary for anyone else. You could just as easily plop this on your work truck and go do truck stuff. However, If you live in an area where things have a tendency to rust, I would suggest you hit it with a few coats of paint before you install it. Item is what I expected, and I knew from other reviews I would be putting a good coat of paint on it to prevent rust, however they shipped with Fedex ground, and it arrived damaged. It was packed in 2 box's, and the driver side mount was bent. Granted I planned on painting it, the process of fixing it scrapped of the cheap powder coating and it required painting to cover up the damage from Fedex ground. I would have picked UPS if I had a choice, and the light mounts and lights were shipped with UPS with no issue / damage. The backrack is rather wobbly, but easy to fix simply cutting 4 steel spacers, and placing them on the top and cab side of the assembly, about a quarter of a inch. Overall for $110 and a little repair / modification it looks great and its going to take a beating anyways. For a cheap backrack I do recommend, but Sportsman's Guide would be better to ship with UPS, as Fedex simply doesn't care and clearly threw this across there truck damaging it. Good value for your money. Fedex also shipped it back and forth between 2 states, Connecticut -> Massachusetts-> Connecticut -> Massachusetts -> New Hampshire. Was pretty difficult to install on my 04 chevy. One of the backer plates would not fit in the stake pocket so I had to cut off about ¼". Its also tricky to hold the nuts and bolts as you can't fit enough fingers in the side access holes. Use some tape and have a variety of wrench sizes and pliers and it's doable. All of this could have been simpler if the manufacturer would have just welded the nut to the backer plate (I didn't want to drag out my welder for that small project as I keep it boxed up). It is good and solid and will protect the rear window from firewood, and I may attach some tool brackets too. There are better looking racks out there but for this cheap of a price it does just as good of a job as the more expensive ones. ... show more
